Default Dan, Why Is This Board So Anti Netscape?

My normal browser is Netscape 4.75. I am using a cable modem and a moderate speed computer. When I log on to this board, it takes forever to load. For instance, when I logged on yesterday, it took
:42 seconds to load Forums page.
Clicked to Windsor Power and took 1:50 to load.
Clicked on to a message, took :55 to load.
Clicked on drop-down menu to Blue Oval Lounge and took 1:32 to load.
This continues on, and on, and on. It takes half a day to run thru the board.

The old board was slow as Hades, but this one seems worse. This is a daily occurrence, not just once in a while.

Now, when I use IE-5, the site seems to load fairly fast and normal.

Am I missing something, or is this normal with Netscape?

I don't know why you are having a big problem with loading the site on Netscape. I myself use Netscape 6.2 as my default browser at home. I use IE 6 at work. I haven't had any problems with either. I also loaded Netscape 4.75 up today both at work and at home to test the board. It was somewhat slower, but not nearly as bad as you say you have experienced. I would expect it to be somewhat slower to load because in Netscape 4.75 because of its slower layout engine and the sites heavy use of nested tables to generate its designed layout. However, it was only about 5 seconds slower than IE 6 or Netscape 6.2

Has this situation improved for you? Also, is there anyone else who has a problem with the board being REALLY slow?

Dan:

I also run Netscape 4.7 (I have DSL) and although I've noticed the website loads slower than before the change it's not a big problem. I would estimate a 10% slower load rate on the messageboards. I can live with it.

Most likely that is because the message boards now run on the Win2K server and not the main Unix server like UBB did. The main server sits behind multiple OC3's, but the the Win2K server only sits behind a 1 Mb connection.

The board must have been extremely busy. I have the board configured to stop CGI execution if any VBulletin prg takes over 60 seconds to execute. If that happens, just hit back and try again.
