|  a free jpeg compressor program?? The reason I am writing this is because I want to beable to compress files to use for my avatar and the other place i can post pics and whatnot. I have downloaded two so-far, and both say they are free, until you try to save your compressed picture, and then it pops up and wants $25-$40. Any help finding a completely free program would be great!

| Re: a free jpeg compressor program?? Well, i cant get my photos i have compressed and shrank to work as my avatar!! Ugh. I am now carrying the "X of shame" haha. They go though fine, but then it tries to show me my new avatar, and its just the red x. I am saving them in Jpeg, do they need to be in something else?? Thanks for any help!

| Re: a free jpeg compressor program?? Go to http://www.jasc.com and download the trial of Paint Shop Pro. It's like a 45 day free trial before you have to buy it. Also, download Animation Shop. Both are decent programs and you can do photo editing, resizing, and animated gifs.

| Re: a free jpeg compressor program?? Ive been trying it with paint shop pro also, but still cant get it to work. I have the image resized to 125x125 pixels and have tried saving it in Jpeg and Gif formats. In Jpeg its 5.54kb, GIF is 10.8kb. What else would cause it to not show up?? I have been trying different names, because i thought I had read in another thread that the name of the file had an effect. I have tried not naming, naming them avatar, and then just their own names I gave them. Sorry about being so incompetent!! Thanks for any help.

| Re: a free jpeg compressor program?? I got it to work as my profile picture, which has the same requirments as a avatar picture, but it still wont work as my avatar!! After I select my picture, i just hit the "save" button right?? Any suggestions?

| Re: a free jpeg compressor program?? i dont think it wants me to have a avatar... I cant seem to even upload the image to this post. I think it must be my ISP or something, I keep getting errors. Sorry for the hassle, I will just go without one until i either figure it out, or not.
