![]() Have you ever thought of adding Senior member status for members who have been around for a long time?

![]() Hmmm, that's an idea... It works by number of posts a person has posted. What would consider a senior members should have under his/her belt before becoming Sr.? Right now the system is set to make you a Junior Member until you post 30 messages. Then you move to member.

![]() I ve had an idea like that for a while...I think 300-400 posts would qualify as a "senior member" or whatvever youwanted to call it.
I think more tech articles are needed, so we wont have soo many repeat posts. You should come up with the top 10 most common questions, and get together and post that you are looking for qualified people to write the article. ------------------ 88GT black 347 X303 ported Canfields, 4.10s, Draglites, SVO hood and a little this...little that ![]() jojo@gibralter.net |

![]() Beni, that's a GREAT idea! Let me get the Users Rides up and then I'll put out some official word about doing this, and see who is interested.

![]() How about this.
I could make it so the system labels new members as "Backyard Mechanics" and then once a member posts 300 messages they get upgraded to "Master Mechanic" or "Certified Gearhead" or something like this.. ![]() I like that. some other names could be
Tech Advisor Senior Member MSE Certified Mechanic (like ASE, but with mustangworks) Tech Guru The only thing that might not correspond, is that some of the members, who might have the number of posts, might not be mechaniclly inclined at all, or actually know very little. By naming them a top mechanic or something of that nature is kind of a play on words. By contrast, we have some very knowladgable members who may only have 60 posts. I think that a 3 echelon system of Junior member, member, and Senior member is more appropriate, or something of that nature. In addition to this, you could designate at your will who would wear the esteemed "tech advisor" or similar title, even if they dont have a million posts. That way all of the members will know about where everybody sits, on the board. |

![]() Another thing I forgot to mention. I believe this site is the largest mustang related site on the internet, correct me if Im wrong. How does it make you feel to read MMFF, and not see this page under there new column. The first page they did was The Corall, and the Stangnet if Im not mistaken. Maybe someone should email them with a link to this site, to see what they are missing. Ive been to just about all the mustang related sites on the web, and this has more content and useful info than any of them. I think the key to keep this site at the top, is to evaluate the key features of other sites that everyone likes so much, and try to find a way to incorporate something similar onto this site. This site and the Corrall are pretty similar in content, utnil you get to the message board. By contrast, they have a huge classified section(I know you cant control that paremeter, unless you want to part out your car). I think it would be a big boost for the site, if we could start a project car. You could get the word out to find someone who is experienced and starting out on thier car, and we can document his sucesses and failures right here on the board. We could have updates every 2 weeks. Even if no changes were made in that time, Im sure track runs and tuning could be documented. I know an idea like this is expensive, and no one would get paid for all thier work. I think a relativly stock project car is more in the reach of the members here. I know my car doesnt fall into this category, which is why I didnt offer. My car is almost complete. However, I did leave 1 stone unturned. My car has a totally stock suspension(even the struts are original, sway bar intact etc...) I have documented all the changes Ive made to my car, and I keep all my timeslips. I would like to do a comparison of the stock suspension, versus the all out drag suspension, and the difference in ET it could make. I have access to a quiet 1/4 track 5 miles down the road, so track testing isnt a problem. I wont have the money for all of the suspension until early next year...but what an idea!

The first thing is that the whole labeling of members on the message board is built into the message board program. At this time it only has two stages, and I have to designate a certain number of post at which time it automatically upgrades an account from the initial label to the later. So, I am limited on what I can do. So, It's either label new people as "Junior Member" like now, and then something else at X amount of posts, OR, it's label them as Member right off the bat and move them up to something more advanced sounding at a larger X amount of posts. However, I don't want to label them as something that makes it sound like, to a newbie type MWorks user, they must be a real life certified mechanic. That could cause some problems. Second, the concerns you are raising concerning the magazines, this site, and The Corral are of no surprise or new knowledge to me. Not to detract from Chris Ihara's site or StangNet, since popular too, but MW is a very large site in its own right (we are now over GB's in size, get 10+ MILLION hits, 3+ MILLION page impressions, and send over 40+ GB's of data per month) and we have long since been ignored by the Mustang magazine community. Almost all the press we have received throughout our history is from 5.0 Mustang Magazine, and that's because Jamie Meyer went out of his way to make that happen. But, it certainly wasn't a feature just on us when we did get in there either. And, in fact, the last time we were mentioned in 5.0 Mustang was an absolute joke. That was in the big "Internet Directory" article supposedly listing all the biggest Mustang resources on the web. In it, they did not even give The Mustang Works its own main listing as one of the major players. Instead, we were stuck back several pages on some hardly noticeable side bar, in very small print, labeled as General Sites. Nobody I know even noticed it until I pointed it out! We are hardly a general site, and we are certainly a major player. The site may not have always been the best design, in fact the previous design was 3 years old, or more, and garbage compared to what I would do today, but it was always functionally advanced and had good features. That's why it grew the popularity and following it has. I think the new design of the site is up to par. If anyone wants to help, Call, Email, or write all the major Mustang magazines and politely inform them about the new site, it's popularity, and that they should give us much more attention then they have. All of us here that work on the site will appreciate greatly any help our users and supporters can give us. Finally, Beni, I have long since meant to put a Project Car article/section online. Go into technical and then select Project Cars. You'll see the initial page for the soon to be section which will detail the entire build up of a race prepped, blown 377 stroker. It will include detailed writings, pictures, video, and chassis dyno details. But, right now I'm programming the Users Rides, which is my top priority and will go online next.

![]() I didn't mean to start an elitism system of labeling by suggesting a Senior status. I just thought it would be nice to show those who had been around awhile and show their serious interest in helping others out with their questions. Not all of us are mechanics but are able to help out anyway, since not all guestions or posting are mechanicly related. Alot of the people here have been here long enough to have had their own questions answered, and can pass along the info that is being repeatedly asked for. This also saves time for the Moderators that repeatedly answer the same questions over and over. Anyway I was just asking.

![]() On the subject of Late Model FAQ, I think there's room for more than a "Top Ten" list of questions. I mean, we get a topic of timing or torque box welding every week at least. We'd neeed more like a "Top 50" list.
I do like the idea of a Senior member status. Having around 400 posts shows a definite interest! ![]() |

![]() Well, I would have to vote against the # of posts deals. To be straight up honest, I have delt with some real idiots on the message board that leads a # of new stangers astray into buying stupid parts that will never make their car perform well. Some people do nothing but read magazines and think they are a pro on a topic of something that I have done several times. I have tested ALMOST every head except yates on different combo's and have a very good idea what will perform on person A's car but you always have the guy that tells them to bolt on a set of Twisted Wedge heads to their stock AOD mustang. Hey, MM&FF said it was a good idea, what a joke. I feel sorry for the people that blow their money on parts because a jack ass told them to. That is why I feel labeling a person a "Super Tech" or whatever it may be for having a big number of posts would be crazy.
I just used TFS as an example to make a point....... Just my thoughts..... ------------------ Brent White, Moderator The Mustang Works Online 90LX>> 12.87@104.6 @ 3300#'s Naturally Aspirated AOD car |
