Default 2000 mustang 3.8 litre

Here is the scenario...i have a 2000 mustang. my car was being used to jump a 1996 jeep cherokee. Both cars were turned off. Jumper cables were hooked up...went to start the mustang to jump the cherokee and the mustang would not start. It acts like it wants to start, but won't turn over. Can you help me?
