slow response speed and constant resetting

Hey
I realize that you are/will be redesigning the website. Can the slow display speed and resetting I am experiencing, be the cause of this??

Thanks

What do you mean by "Constant resetting"?

I would tend to think that if you are experiencing slow response time it may be your connection to the net or your hardware. What kind of system do you have, what are your settings, browser, and what type of connection (speed) do you have to the net?

I'm on the site all the time on a both PII's and a 1 Ghz Athlon system. I'm going through a 600K SDSL connection and I see no problems with response time. In fact, the site comes up almost like its being read from my local hard drive (mostly is since the main layout is cached).

Regardless, when I redesign the site in the fall you'll see either one of two things happen:

It will either be seriously streamlined graphically to bring the document weight of the thing down a good deal

OR

There will be TWO versions of the site. One for broadband users that is graphics heavy, maybe has Flash, and has advanced navigation (maybe DHTML or Flash). And, one that will be streamlined for modem users that is light on the graphics and has simplified navigation.

P2 350 Mhz, 128k ram, 56k robotics modem. Connection speed is 53333. I can connect to other sites faster and at the same time. Cache is 128K. As for the resetting, The main topic page will load, I can click on any topic but it reloads the topic page. I have even clicked on a subject only to have the topic page reload. Given a high end user #--either my provider or the site, the resetting should not happen correct??

Oh... You know, now it sounds like what is going on is that you are either coming into the message board through a bookmark, or you are opening threads with the "open link in another window" command on the browser's right-click menu. That WILL NOT work. The content pages of this site check to see if they are within the graphical framing of this site, and the advertising frame exists. If not, it FORCES the browser to reload the content page with the framing around it. On the message board, this has the effect of throwing you back to the main message board index page.

If you want to surf multiple threads in different windows, you'll have to load the site completely in each window and go into the message board to do it.

Sorry, but that is the only way we can guarantee that our advertising is being delivered. That's what pays for the site to operate.

When we redesign the site, it may or may not be frame based. I am not sure on this yet.
