Dotster is a Domain registrar company, just like Network Solutions. I have all my domains registered through them for two reasons. 1] They are much cheaper, only charging $15 per year per domain versus $30 a year with Network Solutions. 2] They offer DNS services for a small additional fee per year per domain, which let's you control all your own DNS. This is a great capability when you operate your own dedicated servers and also gets around hosting companies that want to nail you with high extra charges for setting up domains, conicals, and tack onto your montly rates.
Unfortunately, Dotster had some kind of DNS server problems last week and serveral of our domains suddenly started resolving to their stupid "future home of a registered domain" page. I had to Email them with an urgent request to solve the problem. They did, but it took serveral days for some people's ISP's DNS servers to refresh their cache of the incorrect IP address information.
