Question 1st time to 1/8 with 98 Cobra

Hello everyone I am new to this site and haven't been active online since I sold my 97 Cobra so I had a qustion about my 1/8mile time. I just bought a 98 blk/blk Cobra with 40k that had never been touched/raced our anything else, So saturday I took it to the local 1/8 mi that they have to try and get some kind of a baseline #'s. The only thing I did was bolt on my Nitto DR's everything else was stock down to the Air Silencer and I was running 8.8 and 8.9's all night at 80mph. I lost all of my timeslips from my 97 so I couldn't compare the two. I plan on taking it to the 1/4mi in the next couple of weeks so any info would be appriciated.

Vnmzd: How do you like the Nittos? I want to buy some drag tires this week and am shopping. My car has stock 17" wheels and I would like a drag radial that hooks up but wont make me hydroplane or slide too bad in the wet (bad prior experiences). Also, where did you buy the tires and how much did you pay?

See the sig...

I finally got some badly need slicks. Just need some rims and tubes now, heh. Then I plan to be in the low 8's.

The best my friend, w/ a 96 Cobra w/ almost the same bolt-on's as me, could get out of his was 9.1.

I'd say it should run 13.8's with traction. I pulled a 8.5 @80.23 and that was a 13.41 quarter time. So I would say high 13's is a very good bet.

Thumbs up

I Love my Nitto's to death drop them down to 15lbs and heat them up and BAMMMMM off you go I was pulling 2.1 all night and it was slick. I have never had them Hydroplane on me they hook better in the wet then my SZ 50's, They also corner really good I mean really good for what they are. I think you can buy them for around $149 +/- $10. Hope this helps

I drove my friend's '97 Cobra at a local 1/8th mile track about a month ago...I was wondering what rpm did you shift at and were you shifting into 3rd right at the end of the track...

Cool

Hi crumbie
I had a total brain fart and forgot to mention that the motor was cutting out at about 6200rpms so I had to shift a 6k( i changed the spark plugs on sunday and now it runs hard all the way to 7k). With shifting at 6k yes I was shifting into 3rd gear.

Those are some dang good times for a bone stock cobra while shifting at 6k...What kind of launch could you get away with using your drag radials and what kind of tire pressure were you running...

I pulled a 2.24 60 ft. the first time I ever drove my friend's cobra at the track...It only ran a 9.60 @ 73 mph, though, b/c at the end of the track I got caught between shifting into third or holding out...I tried to just hold it out in 2nd, but almost redlined the car, so I had to get out of it top end...The car definitely could run low 9's at @ 78-79...

Cool

13.7 @ 100 MPH.

Try slipping the clutch out harder and launch higher.

Cool

8.8 x 1.55 = 13.64 in the 1/4, but 1/8 mile times only tell part of the story. When you get to the 1/4 you may only run a 13.8 cause your car is not tuned right, or you will run a 13.4 cause the the Cobra's are real strong on top. Then again you might run a 13.0 with a good 60', it's all in a days driveing.
