Question 4.6L DOHC Engine Swap into a 90 GT

I'm a fan of the modular engines and I wanted to know what would I need to put a 96+Cobra motor into my 90 GT other than the Engine, trans and ECU/wiring. Would I also have to change the motor mounts or would they match up? Also, how much would a Cobra motor and trans cost me? Any input on this matter or past experiences on motor swaps would be greatly appreciated.

I am actually planning on doing a swap also. At first I was going to do the same, but i relized how much it would cost. Wiring alone would be about $2,000. But that could be different for you, thats what my mechanic would charge. However, to put a 5.0 souped up beyond belief would give you more hp, and cost a hell of a lot less than the 4.6. I also love the modular engines, but if you dont have 3k to have the engine installed, i would go with the 5.0. Also, I don't think the old tranny will mount up to the 4.6, but I could be wrong. I know it will mount up to a 94 Gt however. Good luck.

Not only do you need new motor mounts, you need to change to a newer style K-member and get a new driveshaft also. Probably have to change some things on the exhaust too.

You woudn't need a new driveshaft. You just have to switch the yoke from the 5.0 shaft to yoke from a Cobra shaft to mate with the T-45. Or you could just buy a new aluminum drvshaft for a Cobra and be done with it..

I think I am going to get a new 5.0 engine. I saw one place selling rebuilt 5.0 engines for 500.00. Instead of the engine transplant I'll just get a supercharger. Thanks for the input.

it is expensive and could be a pain in the *** but when i think of my 4.6 engine being in my old 2900lb LX, it makes me wonder how much faster that car would have been. my boat convt must weigh 600lbs more than that car..

i would do it all with used parts..
