Angry Yellowjacket WILL NOT start below 45 degrees F!

This is getting ridiculous, winter's a'coming and my car will not start in the mornings... I'll plug in the electric heater in the garage for an hour or so and the car will start BARELY....

It freaks the computer out and it runs like crap for 2 hours until the computer "re-learns" itself. When it finally starts, the theft light links about 10 times and the throttle won't idle right at all for about an hour. I pulled the codes and I get a code about "theft protection engine disable".... wierd

Some are saying it could have something to do with the IAT....

I've got to get this fixed before it gets cold all day. I'll make it to work, but I'll be stuck trying to get home...

I'm out on the road until this weekend and my poor wife is freakin out.... any ideas?

That sucks, man.

Did you have the wife take the car to a shop?

If you want I can swing by and check some sensors or wiring for you.

Hey I don't have your work email address, so send it to me when you get a chance.

Hmm my 2000 is starting that crap. I start it up..runs 5 sec's...dies..I repat this about 5 times and have to drive 2-3 miles before it stays running now. It just started this last thursday. Car runs fine once warmed up a bit. Seems like every EFI car I have owned ends up doing this.

I was thinking maybe MAF going bad.

Question

Well, in my case I don't think its the MAF, unless Pro-M does the absolute worst MAF programming in history. Cold, the car won't even THINK of starting. It will turn over fine, but it seems as I'm either getting no spark or no fuel....

May have to give in and take her to Dallas Mustang next week, as I've gotta get this fixed ASAP...

Question

Does the key have a special code built into it? Perhaps the colder temps is somehow causing a freak deal with the ignition system? Making it think the car is being stolen?

I think all the new keys have some sort of chip in them. When I get home, I'll try leaving the car unlocked while in the garage on a cold night. This should keep any "theft" systems from kicking in. If it turns over, problem solved, unless I want to arm the car.... but I'm thinking its something more basic that's just freaking out the computer...

I've got the after-market ignition, but I'm trying to figure out what temp would have anything to do with it unless there was a sensor somewhere that was freaking out...

It pisses me off because the car was FINALLY where we wanted it and was running great... now this.... ugh...

I think it is the ignition system. Whenever there is a strange problem with our cars it tends to fall on these aftermarket ignitions. Remove it and see if this is your problem. Somehow it is triggering the PATS system..

this may be dumb but when i bought my 00gt they told me that the chip in the key has everything to do with it starting, check your key out, with ford because the salesman told me , with out the key chip being in top shape my car will not start at all, anyway just a thought.good luck . oh by the way we had a 95 ford van at work they made a copy key plain steel, it would start & then just die i told them to take the chip key to the dealer , they had a chip key made, & it worked. good luck again. go navy!!

Sounds almost like a choke issue, if when the car warms up it runs better.

My car has always run well in the cold weather once it warms up for about 5 min. Its a little rough untill then though, but no problems starting or keeping it running.
