Default 1st Race: Cobra VS Z28

Well I was drivin the new cobra down main street in ventura. its a 4 lane road w/ plenty of stop lights. Im sitting at the light all alone, and I see a LT1 Z28 flying up from behind.

He stops right next to me 2 guys in their mid 20's looking up and down at my car. They chuckle like they are just going to smoke me as they throw a rev. Im looking at their car sizing it up. And the light goes. (I havn't mastered a launch yet in the cobra) And they pull out a half car on me as I bog the cobra with a 1500rpm launch. They pulled out to a car and a half as my torqueless motor w/ 3.27 gears was just passing 4000rpm. Then the cobra started to pull back. I power shifted 2nd and was dead even with him. To the top of 2nd gear I put a full car on them.

Another Red Light. This one leads to the freeway. We line up again, and they are laughin like they won the race. Light goes green, once again they pulled 1-1.5 cars on me at the start. The little 4.6 Revs up and I pass em in 2nd, waving, goodbye. Nail 3rd with almost 2 car lengths on them. We hit the freeway and take it up to about 120 where I had 4 cars on em. I slow down to about 70, cruising, and RICER FLY BY, with them waving makin rude jestures.

First win for the Cobra, I was proud of it.

Yeah I drove a 99 Cobra. I didnt like it at all. It didnt pull until 4500. No low end torque. It felt slow as well. i really didnt scream the piss out of it either. Next time if I get a chance, I will bring it up a little further. Anyways, good job!

Default 4.10's?

Sounds like it needs 4.10's. That would maybe change the low end personality.

Thumbs up

Nice! Good win. Sounds like you raced a bunch of morons, though. Pisses me off when people don't follow simple street race etiquette.

I kinda feel your pain with the '92 GT as it has 2.73s. But hey, I'm loving the gas mileage and being able to run 95 at less than 3k rpm . If I wanna burn gas, I'll drive the '79.

Once again, nice run. Good driving.

You just gotta learn to drive it. I launch at 3000 rpms slipping the clutch. No bog at all. My 01' cobra pulls like a big dawg.

I actually like the 3.27's I can get nearly 60mph outta 1st gear. Thats good for street racing.

Default Delete? I have tried to derlete this post.

I have tried to delete this post several times due to an oversite in reading the original topic. It seems I don't have authorization to delete my own post. What gives? Why can't I delete my own mistaken post? 8/28/03 12:00 PM.

If I can edit the post, then I should be able to delete it altogether. 3:00 PM

This pisses me off a little. A response should be able to be deleted. 7:15 PM.

welcome to the cobra club sky!!! I would get 4.30's for that thing. most of the fast na guys run 4.30's or more. 4.10's would still be a big improvement over the stock gears though! are you going to take it to c/bad and see what you can get it to run? does it have a shifter yet? If not get that asap!!!! that T45 doesn't like missed gears! I like the 98's those are nice cars! congrats on the new car and beating up on the lt1!

Damn leon you turned 120mph! Thats ******* flying. Yeah Im going to get some 4.10's I am really loving the 3.27s on the freeway though, but I find myself driving too fast most of the time w/ them. I think 4.10's will slow it down. I've gotta sell my 93. But I got an X-pipe w/ cats for my car, a MAF, and some pulleys. So I am going to throw those on and a shifter and hit the track. Do you have some slicks for your car now? I'll letcha know when Im going if you wanna go.

I have some slicks now. i bought some used ones and put them on some cheap black rims. I'm kind of just waiting for it to cool down to go to the track as it's been so dang hot lately! I've only hit the 119mph once. Most of the passes are in the 116-117mph range. I did just get a big *** accufab throttle body for my car that flows like 1700 cfm or something crazy like that so i'm hoping i can get some more mph the next time i go! The throttle response is awesome now and it definately feels stonger in the sotp. but only the track will tell for sure! let me know when your going next. my new email is

Yeah, well I am selling the 93 LX, and I am going to continue finishing up making my saleen perfect, before I deciede if I am going to sell it. I definatly want to remove the holley intake, it just kills the lowend on that car. Its hard to let go of the 93, the sucker is so f'kin quick. Sedan, it looks like your blower is working out real good. I want to keep away from putting one on my cobra just for longevity and gas mileage though.

Im going to throw on my x-pipe, pulleys, MAF, and a homemade powerpipe and goto carlsbad saturday.

Cool, whats the best time for the 93?

Do you feel you loose lowend torque with the holley even with the bottle on, also whats lowend (how low). The reason I ask is I am thinking about doing one in my car, but I think the blower will help make up for the lowend tq.

Be sure to let us know how the cobra runs, and whatever you do don't forget to get gears

I havn't run the 93 yet. It still only has 2.73 gears!! But from the feel, it will probably go near 111-112mph right now, its definatly quicker than my saleen.

I really love the 3.27s in my cobra, I can drive 90-100mph down the freeway soo nicely. I am not sure if I am gonna change em or not. I put on the holley and 1.7 rockers at the same time. It really killed the lowend on my car. It doesnt come on till 4000rpm now, it used to be 2500 w/ the edelbrock and the 1.6's. Im sure it would be way different w/ a blower.

What intake do you have? I want to sell mine still, maybe we could work out a deal. I am in no hurry.

I have a trick flow trackheat intake now. My power band gets really started around 3500 although its pulling pretty hard at 3000 and the power band goes to 6200 (when I shift).

I was in Atlanta until basically this morning, and would have hit the track today if I'd seen this before now.

How'd you do.?
