96 Cobra mods...

i am going to make my cobra go a little faster. i was looking at a few parts that ive seen mentioned around the boards. i am definitly getting some type of muffler (probably a dynomax) and have a litle extra money. i am stuck between a bassani offroad x pipe and the steeda pulleys because ive heard a 10 hp increase from both. i want to know what would be the best mod for the money. if there is one that i didnt list please let me know about it. thanks

oh i almost forgot something. i was thinking about 3.73 or possible 4.10 gears. how much would they hurt my fuel economy (both city and highway)?

I would get the Bassani x pipe, I think you would get more hp from that rather then the pulleys. I bought my car with the 3.73 already in, and I want to get 4.30 put in. Right now I get 18 mpg in the city and roughly 24-25 on the highway. Get the 4.10 if not the 4.30.

The Bassani will do more like 15 hp and the Steeda pulley's like 5-10 tops... go with the Bassani. I have both for my '97 Cobra. As for gears, I went with 4.30's because I thought with 3.73's or 4.10's would have me saying "I wish I went with 4.30's" so that was a good choice. In terms of fuel economy, in the city you will basically lose nothing and on the highway 1-2 mpg loss. Once you get adjusted to the new gears in the city you really won't use any more fuel, you will just be in a higher gear quicker hence your RPM's are about the same as before. City gas mileage is contingent mostly on how much you get on your car... could be 10 mpg if you are redlining every gear or 20 mpg if you shift at 3k every time maybe. Highway driving with 4.30's isn't bad if you stay in the 70's... if you constantly drive 80-90 cruising speeds your RPM's will exceed 3k which can both be annoying and use more gas than one would wish. GL!

I got to get the 4.30:1 gears! My buddy has a '98 Cobra with those gears and I can't believe the pull his car has.

Get a 4:10 if you drive the E-way at above 75 mph. Bassani is a great choice.

i usually go about 72 on the eway because its loaded with cops around here and at those speeds braking becomes much sloweri think im gonna probably get 4.30's and the bassani anyone else with an opinion?

I'am happy with all my mods, except the 3.73.
Every time I put on a new part, I can feel the difference. Last night on Woodward Ave. I raced a 911 Turbo with me and three of my buddy's who weigh a combined 500 pounds, and only lost by three cars. I know what your thinking, three cars is alot but so is an additional 500 pounds. All in all I think I would have gave him a heck of a run. But anyway all i'am trying to say is all the bolt-ons I have work well.

Later, Will
