Post 96 Cobra vs 01 Eclipse Spyder

I own a 96 mustang cobra, stock 4.6l 23,00o miles on it. My buddy just bought a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse spyder. He is convinced that he can beat me in a race. I dont want to race him unless I am sure I can win, due to the embarresment of a loss. I normally wouldnt be concerned, however yesterday I was racing a new camaro, and I could barely keep up, and it wasnt even a Z28! If anyone has raced a eclipes please let me know, and also I need a performance tip. What is the best bolt on performace item I can install for the buck. Thanks Guys, and Girls.

Okay. If you were racing a non-LS1 Camaro and have trouble keeping up, then there is either something seriously wrong with your car, your driving, or there is something about that F-body that he knows but you don't. Which is quite possible. I have a friend with V6 badges and a custom exhaulst on a LS1 Z28.

But anyway, you should murder a eclipse spider. Just in case its your driving, here's a tip: Drive the mortal piss out of it. Slam those gears at 7000 RPMs. That's how Cobras are meant to be driven. They like it that way.

Ease it out the hole (no need to launch hard and spin against a V6 FWD Eclipse), then lay into the throttle and lay a hard shift to second and halfway through second it will be far over.
You must not race to much other wise you would know that this would be a waste of gas.

get some 3.73's, this shouldnt cost you more than 400 or 500 installed, the best upgrade for the money!!!

Those Eclipses are turds. We raced one in my friend's 89 GT convertible (high 14s) and we destroyed it.
If he thinks his car is fast, he needs to go for a ride in a real car.
