97GT-Timing problems

Does anyone know how to check that the PCM (ECU/brain-box) is functioning properly or how to check if the engine has "jumped" time (meaning one or both of the timing chains have slipped)?

Mine is running extreemly bad, like the timing is off, and the OBD code reader shows two codes saying there is an ignition curcuit "malfunction." My initial tests suggest the PCM is not sending the spark to the coil-packs but I wanted another way to confirm this. Any suggestions?

thanks

Have you tried pulling the crank position sensor to make sure there's no crap on it. It's magnetic and any shavings and such it picks up will throw the ECM off.

Thanks Zanzer. It ended up being the low voltage input connections to one (or both) coil packs. I pulled them off and they were corroded somewhat. I cleaned them with a small wire brush and re-connected them and that did the trick. I had a feeling it was something simple but I was expecting the worst.
