Default cat. converters??

Ok I have a 96 Mustang GT with flowmaster exhaust. now it isn't loud at all it kinda hums around 2000 rpms and sounds better when revving down it kinda growls...anyway I took a look under the car and I saw 6 catalyic converters. now I know they have some O2 sensors somewhere but can I get rid of these converters without harming my engine or will it make a sound difference? Or just like cut off 1 or 2? I just want to make it sound better without having to buy new exhaust I'm in college and $$ is barely here. I'm just scared of the O2 sensors. thanks
