Question 99 GT IRS?

Does the 1999 GT have the IRS or does it have the regular Ford 8.8? my friend wants to put 3.73s on his 99 gt 5-speed, this will be his first mod (besides K&N) along with something else...help decide for him! thanks

No. So far only the 99+ Cobras have IRS.

I'm told the "Upgrade" to an IRS package is about a $4k investment into the car, and don't know if they can retro-fit the IRS to the pre 1999 chassis...

the IRS should fit, even as far back as a 79 mustang, though pre sn95 cars may need a bit more modification. But I personally wouldn't recommend it, especially if your looking to go faster, even around corners.

Exclamation

The 1999 GT has a regular 8.8" rearend. The 1999 Cobra has the IRS rearend. The 3.73:1 gearset should knock a half of a second off the e.t. and really spin the tires with the transmission's 2.90:1 first gear.
