Gears vs. Suspension work
For anyone that has never driven a 99-01 cobra the first thing you notice about the car is lots of wheel hop. I can launch the car with no wheel hop but soon as I hit 2nd gear it wheel hops pretty bad.
I actually like the 3.27's.......they are great for street racing when you can rev 7000rpms. I would hate to install 4.30 gears and have all of the wheel hop problems amplified. I feel like if I could eliminate the wheel hop I could launch harder and run several tenths faster than I do now. I lose alot of time and mph on the 1st to 2nd shift. I think on these cars the suspension is the weak link and not the gears. If anyone has experience installing gears on an IRS Cobra with stock suspension I would love to hear the results. My car is going into the performance shop in January to have the entire exhaust redone. Mac LT headers, Mac X-pipe,mufflers etc... Then either suspension or gears,

Off topic, but I have heard alot of bad things about MAC LT's. I am thinking about the JDM's myself. Everyone says they're easy to install because you install them one primary at the time so you do not have to lift the engine out of the mounts. Fit and finish is also supposed to be good.
My 99 Cobra has HR supersport springs and still hops bad. A good set of springs will help a little. I have always heard that you could calm it down alot but not get it to go away. I spend more time blasting down country roads than down the dragstrip anyway. I have thought about doing a gear swap myself but everytime I downshift from 5th to 2nd to pass a car driving 45 in a 55 the thought just sorta goes away. Talk to Joe Lynch, the IRS god. PS You would not regret the lowering springs after seeing the new look.

Take care of the wheel hop first. There is someone on the boards who's got it under control, I just can't remember who it is.
I've heard slicks (or ET streets for that matter) will help solve the hop with your stock suspsenion. Something about the give in the sidewalls vs. a full DOT tire. You might check with Saleen to see if they have anything, or PM Druids. He's got to know guys who can help.

Maximum Motorsports sells them. They are supposed to be some of the better ones made for the IRS. Just what I've been told anyway.
