![]() What do you need to do to get your speed to read correctly after you install 3:73's on a 99 GT? I've heard 2 different things and the price difference is about 100 dollars so I want to buy the right part!

![]() I think all you need is a speedo compensator, which is like $40-50. The place Im going to get my gears done at is 185 for the whole install, and you have to buy the speedo separately, but they'll install it for free. Good luck!

![]() More specifically, I think you need a 23 tooth speedo gear.

![]() Actually on the 99 newer cars you can't calibrate the speedo with a gear like the T-5's. You have to but a speedo calibrator or something like that. I think Sean Hyland (overpriced) and Houston Performance sell them, or you can have a custom chip burned for them.

![]() Hey Jodi,
I think awhile back you posted a similar question, you got some pretty solid info. you should check it out. ![]() StoplightWarrior - I notice your from the BayArea, me too! May I ask where your getting your gears done at? Rear End Specialties in Santa Clara? Some other Stang buddies of mine got theirs done there, pretty good shop from what I hear. ------------------ Yours in SPEED======= Mandy aka GTGRL00 |

![]() GTGrl00: Yeah, theyre getting done at Rear End Specialties. The only problem is Im strapped for cash right now, and Ive got the gears and all the steeda parts sitting in my room. I cant decide which ones to install first. Also, Im up in Sac right now, and Rear end spec. isn't open on weekends, so Id have to miss school/work in order to get the gears in. Glad to hear that youve heard good things about them though. They definitely have great install prices! Thanks.

![]() You will need an Electronic Speedometer Compensator or get the computer chip burned and reprogrammed. The 99 up stangs to not use the speedometer gears anymore.

![]() Yup, you either need an Abbott Electronic Ratio Adapter, which is what I suggest because you can always go back and adjust it in case you decide on a different gear or go with different sized tires... Or you can get your stock computer reflashed to fit your gear change. If you ever decide to change tires/gears you will have to do this again....

![]() Ford will not change a stock chip, you need a Superchip or Auto Logic chip, if you go that way.
