OK , I was wrong again. I just checked the mustang specs and for a 98 gt her are the FORD specs. 98 GT 5 speed 2:72 standard - 3:27 optional - 98 GT Auto - 3:08 standard - 3:27 optional.

This is straight from FORD. the 96 may be different, I could not find the spec sheet for that year.
