Rally Wheels
I have a stock 65 Mustang conv with the base wheel covers. I want to replace them with rally wheels and know they are in stock at NPD. I am willing to put up the $500+ to do it but am concerned about the set up. Do I have anything to consider before I buy the wheels?

There are 2 measurements too consider. One is the width of the rim. Stock wheels are probably only 6" and I suppose it's possible the rally wheels come in 7"or 8". Better ask NPD.
The other is backspacing or offset. Stockers typically have a lot of backspacing yielding very little offset and this will have a lot to do with where your tire sits in relation to the fender. If you get too much backspacing the resulting offset could have your tires out there rubbing on the fenders. And of course the size of the tire gets in the act here too! Big tires get closer faster. If you post your tire sizes someone on this board may know what will work for you and try calling NPD with the sizes for their advice too. Unless of course the original rally wheels only came in one size. Then the whole issue is moot. |

Assume your talking about the original full chrome styled steel wheels. The wheels on a stock 65 were 14" x 5" They also make them in 14" x 6", 14 x 7" and 15 x 7" if you want to go with a larger rim. I have the 14 x 5's (made by Pro Products) on my 65 with 205-75-14 redline radials and they look and work great.
