Automatic to Standard Conversion?

Is it possible? And how much am I looking at throwing down for this if it is? Is there THAT much of a difference between them? I read somewhere that a standard is around 1 second faster in the 1/4 than the automatic.

I'd say 1 second is a worthy reason to convert?

1 second faster? Thats absurd!!!!! Maybe in a Honda.

Seriously, where did you hear that? Because you have to walk up that that person and slap the s**t out of them.

An auto is maybe 2-4 10th's slower, thats it. But I have seen many manual owners who can't drive well, so the auto becomes an advantage. Add a shift kit and chip, and you will shift faster the any manual owner can dream.
Then your only disadvantage is the extra power the auto robs while sending the power back through the wheels. A auto sucks up power, and thats its only disadvantage while drag racing.
My brother's 99GT Auto ran 14.2 the first and only time out to the track. There were a number of 99 GT manual cars running that time or worse.

Best shift kit out there IMO is one you can do yourself for only a few bucks. Everyone calls it Jerry's mod because it was written by Jerry W, a Ford engineer who helped design the tranny. He is now working for Roush.

Read the first three sections. It may take a few nights of reading, but its weel worth it. BTW, the first section, Trans 101, will tech you everything you ever want to know about the 4R70W trans.

I am ordering a chip for my brother's 99GT auto tomarrow from a guy on Stangnet who goes by the name of DMann. His website is: http://www.rffperformance.com/
You may wonder why I am going with a no name chip, but its because I know who taught this guy how to tune, and he was taught by the best automatic tranny tuner out there, Jerry W. I'll let you guys know how it feels and what improvements we get at the track.

If I do decide to do this, can I use any stang standard tranny, or do i have to use a post '96 one?
