Post Best point to jack car???

I am trying to find out the best jacking point for my 2000 GT. I have heard that you should not use the differential, but that seams like the easiest place to raise the car up and get jack stands under the frame. Any ideas??? What kind of damage could I do to the diff.? Would it be better to place the stands under the rear axel?
