Post Impressions of a turbo 4.6 w/ tuned DFI

First, I would like to thank Scott(TDC), Job Jr.(Turbo People), Joey(Jade Performance), Lidio(Alternative Auto), all of my friends that help put this together and that provided words of encouragement. We still need to make some minor changes and perform a little cosmetic work, but the car drives like a stock car when not in boost. After all of the custom work performed, the car idles at approx. 700 rpms and the driveability is unreal. The turbo currently makes 7 1/2 psi and pulls harder than my Vortech @ 12 psi ever did in 2nd & 3rd gear. We put the stock 3.27s back in to avoid shifting problems and the car hasn't hit the rev limiter once with many full throttle passes in the street. The turbo whine sounds like a Jet plane when it comes on. The car is a little lazy in the early part of first gear due to the turbine housing A/R which is soon to be corrected. On the 2-3 shift, the car pulls just as hard and you never know that the car shifted because the boost stays right at 7 1/2 psi. We didn't push it to 10 psi because Job Jr. wasn't able to pull enough timing out to keep the car safe enough. So we will be making some changes early next week so we can see what it's like at 10 psi. We have plenty of fuel with the Aeromotive system & 66 lb injectors so detonation will never be a problem. Overall, it was a huge effort on everyones part to get parts and to coordinate schedules to get things done. I was told that, with 10 psi, it will be tons faster than my car with the Vortech & 12 psi. I plan to go to the track next week to prove it.

Thumbs up

Turbo99GT-
I've been following the whole TDC debate that you and others have been in over on the Corral. A lot of people didn't think you would get this far. Well, congrats. There's no doubt a turbo stang rocks! Whether it's a TDC or Incon who cares.

Damn.. What an awesome project. Thats gotta be so cool, driveability and power.

I have always wondered something. How does the car work and drive and idle so well with those HUGE injectors when its not under boost? I've always wondered that.

Also if you don't mind me asking, how much did the whole setup run you and what type of turbo are you running?

I can't wait to see your track numbers.

Cool

I'm with Ripper, I've been tracking this turbo install and the debate associated with it.

I'm glad you can come back and inform us on the progress and give us an idea of drivability and efficency.

Man I'd love to see the car in person, bump the track numbers.

Making it a possibility in my near future is the point.
