Talking 17 x 9" Cobra rims...Tire size?

What size tire should I run on a set of 17 x 9" cobra rims? I see they are selling 245/45/R17's on ebay with some of them. Thanx!!!

you can fit a 275/40/17 tire on that rim easily.

255's are the biggest you can go(to my knowledge) without removing the quad shocks-yes a 275 WILL fit, but you have to remove the quads and once you do that you are prone to axle hop which can cause damage

I just put a set of 17x8 cobra r's on mine 5 days ago, i have 255/40/17's, all the way around, no rubbing in the front and clears everything perfectly in the rear, looks great on them too. like i said, 255 is the widest you can go without removing the quad shocks, if you want to go taller your middle number will have to be larger maybe 255/55/17, but it looks awkward anything bigger than the 255/40/17.

Hey, couldn't you flip upside down the quad to clear the 275? We cobras did this.

Anyway, I put on a Cooper Zeon 275/40 and it didn't have the sidewall buldge my old Dunlops did. So I actually could have went wider with the same clearance.

I used a Cooper 245/45 front and the rim and tire are flush. Wheras again the Dumlop stuck out some.

Maybe something to consider.

im not sure withthe low profile, what i do know is i had a set of mickey thompson et streets 275/60/15 and i could not even tighten it down(quads reversed) without it hittin gthe tire...even with them off th esidewalls still rubbed the hell out of the inner fenderwell. keep in mind now this is all with a 15x8 weld draglite with a 5 1/2 " backspacing. everyon ei know of who has wider than 255 width doesn't have quads

I have 255/45/17's on my 17 X 9 Cobra R's, they are perfect. I have had 255/40/17's and they were good. 245/45/17's are not quite wide enough for the rims and they bow out to meet the rim at the bead. This makes them vulnerable to curb rash...I know first hand.

Ditch the quads, run 275' on the back, and run 255's on the front.

i believe 255's fit on the back perfect. 275 will have to remove the quad shocks and i guess pick up aftermarket rear control arms to stop the hop. i would go 275!

as for the front, i believe 245 will not rub ONLY on 91-93 foxes as they have larger front fenders than 1990 and older foxed. i believe a 245 on the front of a 1990 or older fox will only rub at full steering lock.

Did not know that- dude you rock! I was going to order Memorial Day (Tomorrow). Thanks for the info, I'll go 255/45's on back and 245/45's on the front. Don't worry about the back, I have Mickey Thompson street/strips for that!

Is there anyway I can make the fender wells wider besides rolling them up front?
