Default Cat Backs

Hi, I am confused about tone via different catbacks...

1-flowmaster american thunder $260
2-magnaflow $370
3-magnaflow magnapacks $400

I hear that the magnapacks are the loudest overall and have the deepest sound? Some say Flowmaster does though....what is the truth? And according to their different prices which is more hp for the money....i hear magnaflow is better......Any dealer or website reccomended to purchase these catbacks?

Thanks....

and once again people talk about how they removed their air silencer on their stangs....does that make air flow increase? is it louder? wat is the silencer? is it the housing for the filter?

thanks

Flowmasters can get pretty loud, in fact, TOO loud for my taste...

I'd recommend dynomax or MAC cat-backs....

As far as the air silencer....

Removing the air silencer in the 5.0s usually gave you a few ponies at speed, but I've never seen a credible power increase in a modular setup by just removing the air silencer.
(The air silencer is the piece that goes from the air filter box to the fenderwell)

In fact, for the price, CAI kits don't do much either....

I like the flowmaster dual chamber better as far as the 180 sound is i think they sound more throty<sp anyway my air silecer is off my car and if your thinking about it you will have to do some re-constructing first so the air filter will stay on heres a link that will help...http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/intke.htm
anyway whatever you do dont let anyone tell you you to bore out your stock mass air meter ..I did and i wish i never did..when you punch the throttle it seems to have a miss fire in it ....hope this helps

I have Magnaflows and I love them. Throaty but not too loud just driving around, but sound raspy and mean at wide open throttle.

Probably less than that...

It looks like the new tech article at MustangExhaust.com will be about the magnaflow catback......

"Just wanted to let you guys know what's in the pipeline here at MustangExhaust.com. As a follow up to our successful H vs. X tech article, we will be putting Magnaflow to the test by recreating the Hot Rodding magazine muffler test mentioned in the tech article. We'll be buying some weld-in Magnaflow mufflers and putting them on a stock 2001 Cobra just like in the magazine article and then we'll hit the dyno to see if we get the same results. If we even get half the power gains they got (~20 rwhp) I'll be very happy."

http://www.mustangexhaust.com/

that sure seems like alot of rwho for some weld in mufflers, but i look forward to the article.

20rwhp from a set of weld in mufflers is the biggest load of BS I've heard in a LONG time. Looks like it's time to break out the waders, cause this stuff is deep.

Maybe they did get 20 RWHP from the change.... I can see how adding a set of mufflers to a stock car could increase the rear HP that much... (if they also had about 8 cats in the stock H-Pipe, a very dirty paper filter, and tested the car in 100degree Texas weather..) ---I'd buy that for a dollar.
