cobra

Hi, i have a 97 Gt vert and i'm looking towards getting a used cobra...i'm 17 and have limited funds...

i am thinking from a 98-2002 cobra...

probably 98 or 99.......there is pretty much only a slight performance difference between them right? edmunds.com says that the 98 zero to sixty is 5.4 seconds.....it is 305 hp at 5800 and 300trq at 4800......and it says the 99 is zero to sixty in 5.5 seconds.......it is 320 hp at 6000 and 317 at 4750...

how is that possible that the 98 is supposedly faster with lower trg and hp numbers.....w/e...

also wat is the stock 1/4 mile times for the 98 and 99 cobras?

i really want a dohc engine........anyways thanks for all who will help me out with their opinions...please also include an average price for each of these vehicles...........

maybee i should wait till 05 and get a sick as NEW model cobra or stang......true speed then.....and jaguar/lincoln suspension and handling....not bad....

bye

The 99-01 cobras are about 3 tenths faster than the 96-98's.

My bone stock 01 cobra runs a 13.66 @102 @3000ft

The fastest 96-98 cobra I have seen here ran a 14.0 @99 @3000ft.

If you like both body styles go with the 98' cobra cause it will be cheaper.

The 99-03 cobras have (IRS) Independent rear suspension.
The 96-98 cobras have a live axle.

96-98 305HP 305TQ
99-01 320HP 317TQ

Both cars are nice, Either way you cant go wrong.

Nicely answer Dark!

Spyder, the 1999 Cobra had an engineering issue with excessive flashing at the intake manifold and an exhaust restriction. Check this link and if you go with a 99 make sure this performanace campaign recall was conducted on the vehicle. If not call the SVT line and see if the recall was for unlimited miles, susequent owners.

The IRS module in the 99-03 Cobras ROCKS! Entirely different driving machine on the concrete to asphalt transitions through corners. Now I know these aren't built for a silly little jots down a curvatious road, but Dude!

If you can afford one, the new Mach I is up there with the Cobra. It doesn't pull the new '03s 390hp/390tq numbers, but the Valve train technology is there, as well as the suspension upgrades (no IRS). Plus it's got that boss functional cowel on the hood and who doesn't like a real manly looking car eh? Good Looking 32V 4.6L DOHC 305hp/320tq all for $29,000. Not a bad deal. Still gets 17/25 MPG too.

Good Luck and as Dark said, regardless, you CAN'T go wrong when you own a special production car like a SVT Cobra (or the Mach 1).

keep in mind you could switch out your 2V for a SHM 4V for a lot cheaper than a whole new car.
:)

Spyder210- Where do you live? There is a 96 mystic cobra for sale here in Odesa TX. I heard they want 10,000.

live

i live in the suburbs of NYC....wat is 'mystic' anyways? is that a paint scheme or engine upgrade or wat?

sn95gt19 12-02-2002 02:25 PM

10,000 for a cobra, they are all like 18000 still out here?

Mystic_Cobra96 12-02-2002 02:33 PM

Since, you asked what a Mystic was...

Mystic Clearcoat Metallic is a limited edition paint that was applied to 2000 96 Cobras. There's lots of info at mysticcobra.net. The paint appears to change colors as the viewing angle and amount of available light changes. You can see purple, green, gold, blue, black, burgandy. I have one for sale in the DC area. I'm asking $13,000 for it. It is stock and has about 96,000 miles on it.
Runs great.

Another important thing about deciding on which Cobra to buy. The live axle in the 96-98 cars is better for drag racing and the IRS in the 99+ cars provides a nicer street ride and is better for autocross. For serious road racing, either rear end needs improvement.
