Default 99 cobra vrs 99 gt horsepower

I am saving my money right now for a 99 cobra. If I cannot find one close enough to where i live i might have to settle with a gt.

I was wondering what the stock 99 gt makes in power. I know that the cobra is 330 at the flywheel.

also is there a difference in the 2000 gt compared to the 99 power wise?

and help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Stock 99-03 GTs are 260.
98 was 225, while 97>94 had 215.

The Cobra has 320 at the fly.

Yeah, its a BIG difference.

12.9s on a stock motor... with gears, shifter, and full exhaust. But a 98 with a 01 block or something. The best I've seen in a Cobra is 13.3 @ 10x, something MM&FF did. The best I've seen at the track is a 13.6 @ 102.

12.9s is a big jump from the mid 13s they've been getting.

But if the LS1 can do it, I would bet that a 4v can do it... with a solid rear axle.

I have ran a 13.66 @102mph in my 01 cobra @3000ft. The best any stock 99+ GT has done here is a 14.4 @97mph.

All A 99-01 cobra needs to run mid 12's is a solid axle rear with 4.56 gears and slicks.

There is a convertible 99 cobra that races at my track he has a GT rear end with 4.56 gears and slicks and he is running open header. He runs 12.40's all day long @109mph

Damn Dark_5.0 thats pretty crazy. What is the rear end out of? Do fox bodied 8.8's fit on the 99's and up? I found a 99 cobra convertable for $20,000 but I don't have the money for it yet and I don't want a convertable.

This is what I have and I think it makes pretty good power for a little V8.

Its a 99 GT rear. Yes the fox body rear end will bolt up to a 99+ cobra.

If you like the 96-98 body style of Cobra get one of those they can be had for 12-13K and already have a solid axle.

Just take a look at Mustang92's car which was in MM&FF. 4.30's and bolt ons he is running 12.55 from a GT. I ran a 13.5 before the O/R prochamber and most recent Dyno tune on Bridgestone Potenzas with a stock shifter. Slicks and a shifter would get me to probably 13.1 - 13.0x's. Tell you what, I will sell you mine for $18500 with the sound system and all the other goodies not in my sig It's only got 25K miles on it with 3K being on the new motor. Then I could buy my 03 Cobra

I am really trying hard to find a 99 cobra. I would love to buyyour car. But it sucks for me because I am paying for college myself and in the mean time trying to save all the money i can. I plan on putting a 10,000 to 15,000 down payment so my loan payment will not be allot. but I wont have 10-13,000 untill late august or september.

12's are possible with bolt ons on a GT but it also takes sticky tires, which leads to built rear end which leads to suspension work, etc... With a Cobra you can get there on DR's and bolts ons if you can drive.

As for a 4v head swap it's just not worth it when you consider you will need new pistons and crank just to keep the correct compression ratio and be able to rev to 7K RPM to take advantage of the better breathing heads.

Thanks man. Yes I do drive it on the street every day it's my daily driver...at least for another month or so. I'm hoping to step it up a little more soon once I get a truck. The only video's I have of the car are a couple dyno pulls from a few weeks ago.

Mustang92, 1st pull - http://www.tchracing.com/media/uprdy...ustang92-1.wmv
Mustang92, 2nd pull - http://www.tchracing.com/media/uprdy...ustang92-2.wmv

They're all encoded using Windows Media Player 9 codec. Make sure your Windows Media Player is up to date! If you don't have it, you can get it at http://www.windowsupdate.com
