Exclamation Cobra has its fangs! Post-fix dyno #'s!!

Dyno'd my 99 Cobra on Tuesday, post fix.
PRE-fix, the numbers were (stock save K&N):
271.6hp 277.8tq

POST-fix (still stock):
283.0hp 287.6tq

WOW!!
SVT sure did its job, eh?
Using an 18% loss, Im making roughly 342hp and 345tq at the crank!!! Definitely wow!

Just thought you guys would like to know that not all Cobra's are dogs.

Stoked,
Steve

Those numbers sound pretty **** good. Now,
go hunt down some T/As and Z28s and show them your tail lights.

Thanks!

Heh, funny you mention Z28s. You know how it seems the typical Z28 driver is very cocky when it comes to racing Mustangs?
Last night on the freeway some guy in a white Z28 (96-99, at least the new body style with the bubble headlights) pulled up next to me, then passed slowly, slowed down again, and passed me again. Thinking he wants to play, I drop it into 3rd and punch it to get next to him, then slow, pull even, and punch again.
Hehe. He didnt want any for some reason.
Anyway, its not for lack of trying...cant wait for a few bolt ons so I can see 300hp at the wheels!

hey dynamite your numbers sound reasonable. my question is this: do all cobras get this fix or just the messed up ones? this leads to; do the ones that are not messed up get that much more power and then the ones that are messed up get the factory 320? if you're pushing 340 horse at the flywheel you just might think about getting some of that vette action. you'd waste an old vette, but a c5 would be interesting. do us a favor and go looking for some trouble on some new vettes and tell us about it.

Fixer,
ALL Cobras get the fix because ALL of them are messed up-- every 99 Cobra has the bad mufflers. (At least thats what SVT told me)
Not all have bad intakes though. But they use a process similar to "extrude honing" the intake, which Im sure definitely wont hurt anything on a Cobra actually making 320hp. They (SVT) have no idea (or so they claim) what Cobras are affected and what ones are not, so they just fix all of them.
Yeah, I really should go looking for C5's (maybe Ill get some 4.10s first ) and Ill definitely post what happens...

hey DYNO, ifigured you'll be making 345horse with an 18%loss.first you were making 18 percent loss with the other exhaust so even still its a conservative estimate. follow me here and you'll see what i mean:
what you know for sure: 283.0 rwhp.

assuming 18% loss, 18/100 = .18 then

283 = X-.18X,

283 = X(1-.18),

283/.82 = 345 HP!

IF YOU use the same formula for the torque (also not real accurate) then we should have

287.6/.82 = 350.7 torque (lbs/ft)

either way, you're making real good numbers. this is also assuming an 18% loss with a restrictive exhaust so you might be making more. who knows, but from a car by car standpoint a good estimate would be 320-345 horse. don't even waste your time with z28, just go for those ram air t/a's and some vettes!!!

the power is right where ford guaranteed it would be, but you'd still be hard pressed to beat a GT in a 1/4 pass. the power will help, but that damn IRS is a pain in the *** to launch with.

------------------
86LX 306 out of a 69. c-4 auto with b&m shift kit. stock 3.08 gears
1 5/8" flowtech longtubes, 2 1/2" flowmasters, edelbrock performer intake
Holley 650 vacuum carb. ported, polished stock heads.
the car dyno'd with 340 at the wheels, and i expect low 13's to high 12's with it
