What exactly is meaning of Modular?

I ams ure others have asked this before, so I am sorry, but what makes a motor a Modular motor?

modular is a term that ford uses to explain it`s engine style
meaning that parts interchangability between diferent models will
work without modifiations ie heads and crank. like the cobra heads will work on a sohc engine and the crank will fit to in all the 4.6 and other mod engines even some parts from the 5.4 fit these
