New Wiring Harness...

I took my car to the shop no more than a month ago, there was a short somewhere. Got a few wires under the dash and a few in the front fixed. Then when I got home I replaced my alternator. It's a pain in the butt to tension it.

Then I replaced the, errr forgot the name of it. Little power box on the drivers side, next to the radiator. It worked for a few days and then I got a short again, dead battery. Got the battery checked, it was good, it's new. So I took it back to the shop, cuz of the short it broke the new box thingy I bought, shorted it out, and Mike (mechanic) told me the alternator would have been next. So, he fixed some more wires and it worked fine for about a month. I was out of town visiting friends for what was supposed to be a weekend, turned into a horrible, unwanted 2 week vacation, and paied some idiot $65 for a new wire attachment, and it was still broken. Finally said screw it and drove it home how it was. As long as I didn't/don't shut the car off for an extended period of time, it's fine, otherwise I unplug the battery. On the way home it overheated, and I blew a head gasket.

Mike has it now, at the shop here in LA. I won't get it back till Thursday, soonest. I hope this will stop the shorts, but I know it won't. What I need to do is replace the wires. And now to the point of all of this rambling, does anyone know where I can get wireing harnesses for a 1966 Mustang, coupe?

What do you suggest I do?

I've heard good stuff about their product. I don't know if this is what you were looking at but I don't remember it being 400 bucks when I looked into a painless system for my el camino. Maybe 280? Good luck, electrical problems suck.

My 68 wiring harness was beyond repair. There are no reproduction harnesses for the 68 and even if they did make one for it the 67 harness was right around $500 from Mustangs Unlimited. I contacted "Metro Mustang" and got a used original one in mint condition for $250 (cheapest I could find). Their web site, along with phone #, is www.metromustang.com. If interested in contacting them, ask for Tim. He's been a great help to me and can get you just about any possible part you'd ever need.

I very highl;y recommend Mustangs Unlimited to buy things for your stang, get a free catalog, I've never had a prblem with them

If anyone cares, the shop sent my heads to a head shop to see if they're cracked. I'm calling back tonight to see if they are. *crosses fingers, hopes they aren't* At least the block's ok.

I don't know if he has had a chance to work on the other things. (Alternator bolt needed replacing, and there was another short somewhere.)

Well, I have more news on my car.

Went in the shop Monday, it overheated and blew a head gasket. Well, it urns out, on top of that the block cracked and one of the pistons broke also. So, the engine has to be replaced AGAIN!!!

This will be the 4th engine in this car, the 3rd we've put in!

We're on the look out, through friends and anyone else w/ an egein they wanna sale for like $500. The mechanic, could put a $2,000 one in for us. ($500 for the block, and the rest I don't know where it goes, labor?) Anyways, this sucks!!!

Fiance REALLY wants to get rid of my car now.

I wish there was some kind of engine fairy.

We can't afford to go through engines like this Fiance says it's cuz of his bad luck with cars. I think it's cuz he just doesn't want to pay to do it right. We should have bought the shroud long ago, but he wanted to seee if he could get it cheap. And now that we finally bought it, it's too late, plus he bought the cheapest one he could find. He just doesn't get it!!!
