Question tire/rims

I WANT TO UPGRADE MY STOCK 15" WHEELS ON MY 87 GT. WILL 16,17 OR 18" FIT? WHAT MODIFICATIONS DO I HAVE TO MAKE? WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TIRE/RIM COMBO THAT WILL FIT WITH AND WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS? I WANT TO RUN EVERYDAY RADIALS. THE ONLY CHANGES UNDERNEATH ARE SOUTHSIDE LOWER LIFT BARS AND FLOWMASTERS."THANKS IN ADVANCE".

I have an '86 GT, with the narrower quarters and I run a set of 16x8's with 245/50-16 all the way around. There was a little bit of a rub in the front, but I had a lical machine shop fabricate some turn-stops for the front and that eliminated the problem.
