Question Cracked Intake Manifold

I just took my '96 GT out of storage and had coolant gushing out all over. Apparently the 5 year old anti-freeze was't up to the job and the front coolant channel, between the heads(also contains the thermostat) has a 3 in long crack.

Since I now have the old manifold off the car, what are my options? New(ouch$$), used, maybe an aftermarket manifold?

Thanks for any help.

Dude, what the hell are you doing? Don't take it apart!!! Ford will fix it for free. The cracked intake is a common problem on 96-97 GT's. They don't replace the intake until it cracks. So, they pay for the tow, and all repairs.
Call the Ford dealer and have them fix it. The same thing happened on my old 96GT. I didn't pay a dime.
Just do what I ended up doing...sell the GT and buy a Cobra with a real intake.

Good luck

There's a TSB on this. Ford will replace it. Just got to get it to a dealer. Just to be on the safe side you might not want to mention that its been in storage.

Cool

Yep, there's a recall on it. I just had mine done and they installed a 98 intake on it. For what that's worth, probably nothing. If they give you **** about it I've got a copy of the recall if you need it. Also, don't mention it was in storage. Just tell them you were driving it and it blew.

I know someone here in St. Louis who paid to have his intake replaced (did it on his own). Then went to Sunset Ford and they reimbursed him his previous cost AND they replaced the intake again! They wanted it done IAW the TSB so they ripped it all out.

Gotta love it when customer service is done right.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info guys, Tuesday I boxed up and labeled the parts I had removed and had it towed to the local Ford dealer. They reassembled the whole thing, got it back Thursday, all free of charge. The first guy I spoke to tried to say I was responsible for the tow charge. I said 'Because of the defective Ford intake, I couldn't drive it there to get the recall done' He then asked his boss and called someone and finally agreed. Boy, I really felt on the defensive, sort of like I had to prove myself innocent of any wrong doing. That's not right!
