d.s.s short block vs. building a stocker
I'm currently looking at the dss pro mod shortblock that is 2800 bucks. It comes with forged internals is bored .30 over and has main support. Do you guys think this is a good deal or should I just build my own?
thanks, MonroeGT |

I think that is a decent price. I personally like VT better but DSS makes a decent block.

I would rather build it myself and save a little bit of cash and gain the experiance. Granted, you need some experiance with these in the first place, but a short block is a short block. If you want, I could build it for you.....but then you're back in the same boat as the DSS engine.

Re: d.s.s short block vs. building a stocker
The pro-bullet 306 I have in my 89 is a nice piece. But for modular motors there are other companys that offer same/better quality for less $$$. I'm pretty sure that the DSS block you are talking about doesn't come with a forged crank, and if you're going to spend the money for good rods and pistons you should go ahead and do the crank too. Also most will tell you that you don't need a main support on modular blocks.
