Damn intake!

Well, it finally happened. My intake just blew about 10 minutes ago. It just happened out of the blue. So off to the dealership she goes. I'm pretty sure it's the intake as there is coolant all over the inside hood and the front of the intake is soaked. There don't appear to be any leaks or cracks on the radiator or anything else. Sound like an intake? I wish i had the money to upgrade the part but i'll have to deal with whatever they put on. I'm assuming everything should be free.

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Atleast they're consistant. But the replacement should be covered by Ford.

Well I got it towed (her first time on a tow-truck...she looked sad) and got her to the dealership around noon. I just got a call from them and sure enough it was the intake. They ordered the parts and a new thermostat and i'll have her back tomorrow. All in all aside from the crappy part to begin with everyone has been very helpful. Maybe i'm just extremely lucky but I can chalk up another positive dealership experience. Sorry to ramble.

I'm glad you had a positive experience at the dealership.

When mine blew, they dealership popped the hood, saw the Procharger, shut the hood, and began to write up a bill....

Needless to say it didn't stay at the dealership long. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

Ok, I have the car back now. Everything looks fine. I know this has been discussed before but what intake do they replace it with? Obviously it's not the SVO intake or anything so is it the same exact intake only new? Or is it a modified intake that's not supposed to crack anymore? If i'd had the money I would have upgraded and had them just charge me for the part but you know how things go.

If I thought for one minute a cracked intake would get me the SVO one....I'd be out in the garage bangin' on it with a hammer!<g> Anyway glad you got it running again !...GTRagtop

Glad you got it fixed so quickly.

They replace it with the '98 intake. I guess it's stronger, but still the plastic crap, so how durable can it be? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/rolleyes.gif
Just don't supercharge it http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

I was under the impression the replacement was not plastic.

Stefan 04-13-2001 10:28 PM

It's definately plastic - though the exterior looks a tad different. I have no idea what the differences between the original and the '98 intake are. I assume they flow the same. At the very least I got a free thermostat and a flush and fill for free so as long as everything works I can't complain.
