Post End of the SVT Cobra?

I was watching a show today on the discovery channel, and it said that this would be the last year that Ford was going to make the Cobra SVT. Is this correct? If so does anyone know what it is going to be replaced with?

Question

What show on the Discovery channel talks about Cobras?!?!!?

I havent heard anything about 2001 being the last year. In fact, Car and Driver said that SVT has started a new add campaign that is comparing the Cobra to the Vette, meaning that some time down the road, SVT will most likely give the Cobra some MAJOR power.

Red face

What's wrong with you? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?
Is a 5.4L is the works for the new Cobra? Well, that's what I've heard. Not saying that it is so, but it is what I've heard.

Well it is definately a relief to hear that there is still going to be a cobra. Like I said I was watching this show on discovery, and I came in towards the end of the show. I guess they must have just been saying that there was no longer going to be the 4.6 in the new cobras???

They're talking about putting a 5.0L (as in 4.6 DOHC block with a larger bore), which I think would be a better engine for the car then the 5.4. The 4.6/5.0 blocks are already tall and wide, the 5.4 is even more so. Extra displacement is always good, but so is balance.

Anyway, Ford has been throwing out all sorts of rumors, ranging from the lightning motor (including blower) to some thing more like the FR500, to something based on the Jag 3.9.

Just have to wait and see...

Cool

Has anyone heard/read the article from BlueOvalNews.com?

Lots of rumors for the next powerplant.
Not supposed to be a 5.4, 4.6 or V6 variant.
Supercharged rumors abound.

I think blueoval is down. Couldn't log on earlier.

A chassis not shared with a 1979 Fairmount? A very well designed, all around double A-arm suspension? A ridged, light, chassis?

Oh yeah, and it can come with T-tops!

In the latest issue of MM&FF there is a part where they are saying that SVT might be disbanding. Ford wants to put the 30+ people on the SVT team back into other parts of the design process, and then a company such as MaClaren or Roush would be the maker of Ford's special vehicles. As of now this is just a strong rumor. I think it would suck though.
