Engine Swap???
Guys,
I need help making a decision here. I have a '96 Saleen S281 with 85,000 miles on it. Tonight, my brother mentioned to me that he knows a guy that wants to get rid of a new '01 4.6 GT engine. My question is the following: If you were me, would you spend roughly $1,500 and do the engine swap? (basically giving me a brand new car that runs stronger and gives the car a longer life span). Last night, my water pump started making noises and I may have a slight oil leak (the LOW OIL light is on). Thanks, Mike

Go for it. But it might not be just an engine swap, you might also need the computer from the 01 car also. But i'am not positive.

You should get that engine as fast as possible. Use your harness, computer, etc. You don't need the '01 computer. Only difference is the coolant sensors. On '96-98 engines there is one sensor on the drivers side (gauge) and one on the passenger side (computer). You will have to relocate the drivers side sensor due to the newer engine's intake having only one sensor location. That is on the passenger side. You can either rig a "T" fitting at that location and plumb both sensors in there or relocate the gauge sensor into the block. There is a coolant plug under the drivers side header towards the front of the block. Install the sensor there, then cut the harness wires, and splice in a section to extend them down to where you can plug in the harness. Quick and easy way to pick up power in the older mod cars.
