Default Engine swap or not

I have a 98 gt 5sp. Not really happy with performance. I've installed 3.73 gears, Mac cold air induction, BBK 75mm throttle body, Off road H-Pipes, flo-master exhaust. Before I dump major cash into upgrades I was wondering if I could get some imput on whether I should build my own 351w with all the mods I want or should I keep the 4.6 andtrick it out.

Keep the 4.6L. If you can build your own 351, then you can tackle you own head swap.
Get a set of PI heads and intake. Port the heads and send the cams away for regrinds (about $300 from Crane I think.) Then you can ad a bigger MAF, LT headers, and a dyno tune, and you'll be in running low 13's, maybe high 12's on street tires. Thats not too bad for a N/A 4.6 2V with stock suspension.
Then, if you decide to SC or Turbo on top of that, you will have one hell of a nasty combo.
I don't think its worth all the trouble that a 351 swap would bring you. Stick with the 4.6L.

Default Help

What is the major difference btwn the modular engine and the pushrod? Can a modular engine be stroked? Are there any after market cams for the mod engine. How can I get my 4.6 to run in the 10's and still maintain street drivability?
Thanks 91Lx2BFast for the info on the engine swap. I think I'll make the 351 a project and eventually make the swap when I purchase a new Mustang(cobra of course).

Main difference is the 4.6 is a overhead cam engine where the 5.0 is the older overhead valve style with the cam in the at the bottom of the "V" above the crank.
There are stroker kits available for the 4.6L, but they are very expensive and really aren't worth it IMO.
There are cams available. Like I said above, the cheapest are regrinds, and they work very well. One guy over at stangnet just passed 300rwhp with his N/A 4.6 2v on mostly factory parts (ported PI heads, Bullitt intake, etc.) He gained a dyno verified 15HP with his $300 cam regrinds.
As far as going 10's. Well, Just ask Turbo99GT. He just went high 10's without even opening up the engine, and I am sure his car is smooth as a kitten on the street if he can keep his foot out of it.

Quickest and easiest way to increase the power on the '96-98 cars is with the PI headswap. Bolt on increases of 50-90 rwhp are common. Ported heads with regrind cams are highly effective. I have a fully ported headswap package that sells for $1500. It is complete with all new Ford parts. Heads are fully ported and ready to bolt on. Email me for info. shannan.wheeler@ps.ge.com

As for the 10 second zone..........turbo. Simple.

PS>I'm in Baytown. Catch me at HRP this Friday night and I'll try to help you with this project.

There is a mustang website running a steal/deal on a set of heads and an intake. Not sure the exact specs but it seems pretty good...and its only $1500 for the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!(unless I read it wrong). I'll get you the link when I get home from work.

Agreed.

The headswap will certainly wake up the car and if that package is for real .... definately the best steal/deal going for 96-98 GT guys or gals.

Then add a power adder and certainly hold on!!

That would be the package that I'm offering. It's for real, complete, fully ported and is available right now. Email me or pm me for details.
