estimated 1/4 mi time
I own a 96 GT with the following mods.
2.5" flowmaster cat back 2.5" MAC hpipe with cats 70MM throttle body Adjustable fuel pressure regulator(at 42 PSI) 87 Prom bullet MAM ripper shifter 3.73 gears underdrive pulleys hypertech power programmer 3 with thermostat(160) MAC cold air induction Steeda timing adjuster Will the car run faster with the installed h-pipe with cats or an offroad h-pipe. Both from MAC and 2.5", I own both. What degrees should I have the timing adjusted to. Where is the best place to get your cat dynoed and run the 1/4 at in Va? |
Generally (unless you have a serious motor) an offroad h-pipe is worth about 2-3 hp over a cat pipe from what I have read. Sound quality is the main difference.

With the high flow cats it's not going to make much difference hp/torque wise vs an offroad. Keep the catalytic one so your emissions system will be happy and not screw up the cars performance which will happen with an offroad pipe on your car. I'm not sure about the timing. You should be able to get high 14s pretty easily. If you could get traction, such as with drag radials or slicks, you could probably see 14.5ish. That's just a rough guesstimate. You might be able to do more or less. Driver makes a big difference. You are running a thermostat that is way too cold. I guess it came with that chip? Those off the shelf chips are useless. The only computer chip that's worth anything is one that is burned for your particular car and mods when put on a dyno.

I would run 14* timing as cold as it is.
Maybe 16* The h-pipe won't make much difference at all. 5 hp=about .05 ET You should go mid to hi 14's Don't bother w/ a dyno right now, Use your best time slips and go to stangnet or mustangweekly and plug those numbers into the calculators for estimated hp. You will need an accurate weight of your car, not a guess. A lot of truck stops charge around $5 to weigh-in ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.webprovider.com |
