![]() I am going to take off my smog pump tomorrow (new h-pipe) and I am trying to find the right belt length for a 92LX5.0 with stock pulleys. I did a search but most everyone that stated a size had pulleys. I had a lot of trouble with my battery going dead on my last mustang (87) that had pulleys so I don't want to go that route. Before I remove the pump couldn't I just go to the parts store and try a few and give back the ones that don't fit? Is there anything else I need? I am practicing the 6 P's
Thanks in advance....

![]() Finally, I can help someone. I have a 92 gt with pulleys, but I have an alternator bracket so I retained the stock belt size. I bypassed the smog pump last week with an 84.9 inch 6 groove S belt. The tensioner will hang almost to its limit, but the belt is still tensioned well. I looked for an 84.5 which was recommended, but no one down here had one. There's a link to show how to route the belt. I'll try to find it and repost it. Hope I've finally helped someone.

![]() take a string, wrap it the around the pulleys as the belt will go, w/o using the tensioner. that should put you within a 1/2 inch. and yes, you can switch them in the parking lot of your parts store till you get the right one. usually two tries to get it right in my experience.

![]() You can run a shorter belt and retain the pump if you would prefer.
