Default Fuel Filter replacement?? 98GT Quick Help!

HI Gang,

I was hoping to get some quick help on replacing the fuel filter on my 98 GT. Found it..unpluged the shut off switch in the trunk and ran the car out of gas. have it out of the bracket, But I'll be damn if I can get it off...Do you need a tool to release it? Can something else work if so?

Thanks

Yes you need a fuel line lock release tool...available at any parts store...get the one with two sizes, one size on each end.

When you use it, place it in the fitting until you hear a click, it will come right out...

When you get it all together, pressurize the fuel system by turning the key to the on position and wait for a couple seconds before you start the car, this will activate the fuel pump and pressurize the system. It should start right up...

Check for leaks...

Have fun...

Can either of you tell me who makes this tool and, if possible, the part number for the tool?

Thanks,

Unhappy Fuel Line Tool

Hey Greg..

I purchased mine at Autozone. It's made by "OEM" and the part # is 25043. It works like a charm, It has Ford on one end and GM on the other.

However, Make sure you get Motorcraft filter if you can..I was in a rush and could not find one at the places I was looking. Mistake! the filter that I installed was from Autozone and the necks or the lines coming off the filter are not as long as the original and the fuel tool will not fit between the filter and the fuel line. SO, the next time I replace it I'm going to have to cut it off

Don't make my mistake

Good luck Greg
Phil

Thanks a lot, Phil...I got the NAPA filter (made by WIX) and I'll compare it to the stock one to make sure they're the same. If not, I'll make a trip to the dealer...

Thanks again,

Glad things went halfway O.K.

The fuel filter for 98 and up Stangs isn't a normal stocking part in some stores yet, so you may have to ask for it at the counter where they stash uncommon parts. I use the Purolator #65277 usually $7-9 bucks.

Another question for you guys...if you use the right tool to release the fuel line clips, can you re-use them when installing the new filter? The plastic clips that came with my new filter look kinda chintzy...

Thanks,

CADreamin...you should not have any clips, the 98 and up filter locks in the fuel line fitting itself. Double check the part you bought, the 79-97 Stangs use clips to hold the fuel line in place...
