fuel pump problems

On my friends 99gt the fuel pump will not turn on. I checked the saftey switch in the trunk, the fuel pump mini fuse under the hood and it all checks out fine. I also disconected the fuel pump plug by the tank and tested the conecter with a test light. With the key on only one of the pins had 12v and another had around 5v.

Thanks,
Wade

I can attest to being in the worst position for this....ie in a lower-lever pkg garage, pump died going up the access ramp...car dead....had to crawl back into the bowels of a garage that has a 6'8" clearance....dozens of miles from home...major work needed......Ford's warranty took care of everything. Lucky, I have only months left...woulda been a grand+ (courtesy tow, flatbed tow, drop tank, replace pump, rental car...). Yep, fuel pumps shouldn't crap out at 11K miles.....I agree, so does my wife (unfortunate passenger). At least I called it right after a running clutch-dump-starts and a few underhood checks/attempts at flooding it out......I knew it was the pump, no use trying further. Bad feeling, never had a fuel pump crap out w/o warning....EVER. One of the few things you ain't limping home with...
