Question Gears

A friend of mine told me that changing my gears will keep me happy until I get the cash for serious engine mods. My question is which gears are best suited for a daily driver? I see 3.73's are popular bur I hear they make freeway driving rough. I was thinking 3.55's. Any input will help.

Cool

No way, man. Go with the 3.73s. I had both 3.55s and then 3.73s in my 96 and the 3.73s were better. Whoever told you that the freeway driving is rough with the 3.73s is smokin' crack. There's nothing rough about it. Cruises like it's nothin'. I still got low 20s mpg with them. Puts it in it's power band where the engine needs to be. Plus you don't have to shift if you need to pass someone. But if you do it's alot more fun doing it. I'm assuming your car is a 5-speed? If it's an auto go with 4.10s. Do not waste money on 3.55s.

373's are the best for 96-98 cars! the 99's up really like 410's because of the better heads. get 373's, 355's are a waste of time.jmho.

Question

Cool, thanks for the input. The car is a 5 spd and I plan on doing the head swap in the near future, so would I be better off going straight for the 4:10's? And how are you guys getting this gas mileage?!? I'm only getting 15 mpg! I gotta be doing something wrong

Stick with the 3.73 gears...I usually get around 20 mpg while using 5th gear as much as possible...
