gears

I have a 97 GT does anyone know what the stock gears are in the rear end and what would be a good gear to put in? Also how hard would it be to do and should I use ford parts?

I think the gear of choice is the FMS 3.73's.

That is one job I did not even want to tackle. The last thing you want is to have gear whine! Stock gears in a 5 speed are 2.73. I think AOD's had 3.08's.

95 is right. You may even have the optional 3.27's. They came in my 98 GT. I'm upgrading to 3.73's.

Use Ford Racing gears. I hear they are the best and don't whine. Be sure to replace the bearings (ring and pinion) and use some good synthetic gear fluid.

No 3.08's didn't come on SN-95's, they were optional old the old Foxes. 2.73's were standard and 3.27's were a no cost option until 99 when they became standard. Unfortunatley I got the crappy 2.73's. But that's okay, who cares what the car came with stock it's what you swap it to that it matters.

That's right. If I could do it all over again I would have just bought a SHM car.
