Default Gears and speedometer for '02 GT

I posted a couple of times concerning exhaust and other possible bolt-ons. Based on the responses I've gotten (plus reading a bunch of this forum) I'm going to do the Gears first (going with 3.73's; just in case I ever decide to add a blower!). I can get the Ford gears locally for $199.00 (vs internet for $179 plus shipping; I figure it's a wash so I'll buy locally) and $250 to install them. Is this a resonable price? A fellow at Austin Performance said I need a $11.95 plastic gear to adjust my speedometer; is this correct? I read Hammer's FAQ and he indicated you need a $100 to $140 Speedcal so I'm confused; which is it? Thanks for your help!

1998 was the last year to use a conventional speedo gear.

If you're using a 5-speed manual, you will need to get something like Dallas Mustang's Speedcal....

NO, much cheaper gears here.

I got mine there, and w/ shipping it was only about $170. You can also order the overhaul kit (which you will need) and a few other accessories. They also shipped mine quickly, I think I recieved it a day later. Quality stuff, even came with shims and bolts.

Oh ya, $250 is a good install price (what I payed, a little more w/ tax). Check into them, though. Make sure they know what they're doing. A bad install = whining gears = very big pain in the butt.

Default Thanks........

Thanks for the info. I appreciate the link Titan as that was the best deal I found (I bought them today). As for the Speed-Cal, I found one from Brother's Performance Warehouse for $89.14 after shipping and all (got that too). Now for getting them installed and not having my girlfriend mad at me !
