Cool Got my 4:10's!

I finally had my Ford Racing 4:10 gears installed, and since so many of you were curious about finding out how the mod worked out I wanted to share what I think so far. First of all, I Love it! I am glad this was my first mod. The car flies through the gears with way more gusto than before, and now I can use my screen name "bark3rd" without shame because now my car lays down a nice chunk of rubber when shifting to 3rd! The throttle response is much better as the car stays in the meat of the powerband almost all the time. It feels very natural and almost seems like the car should come like this from the factory. I am very glad I didnt go with 3:73's, I almost did because I was concerned about how high the RPM's would be. Just normally going through the gears around town (normal driving-not flat out) I now will shift at the following RPM's: 1st-20 mph @ 3000, 2nd-32mph @3500, 3rd-43 mph @3000, 4th-55 mph @3000, 5th-70mph @ 2600, 80mph @ 3000. On the highway I am much happier not having to downshift to 4th and redline the tach just to pass someone, now I just step on the gas in 5th and the revs and acceleration are just right all the way up to about 110. (I havent taken up past 110, but over 100 it is revving quite a bit more than with the stock gears but pulls much harder than before). It is hilly here in Austin, and I actually think I shift less now than before. Another obvious but unexpected change is the average exhaust note is higher and kind of gives me that "Ferarri" feel if you know what I mean. Anyway, I cant wait to get out to the track. Any guesses out there for 1/4 mi ET? Unfortunately I never got a chance to be timed before the mod.

Sounds like an awsome mod for ya! I've been thinking about a gear mod as well in my 200GT ragtop. I've only added the K&N to date. Does anyone know how limiting the 4:10's are vs. the 3:73's for top speed? Not that I tool around at 140+ to often anyway...<g>....GTRagtop

GTRragtop: I think that in your average top-speed duel ability (maybe 1 mi long roll-on against an M3 from 70 to 130 +-)should be judged in part by the roll-on acceleration time from about 70 to 130. This,in my experience covers the majority of freeway top-end race situations. My car pulls so much stronger in 5th now from 70 on up I have a much better chance of out-accelerating someone now then I did with the stock gearing whether down low or on top. All things being equal, below 130 mph I dont see how the 3:73's would out-perform the 4:10's. Now if you live in Nevada or some other deserted place with 20 mi straights then you may need something different! My point is simply, acceleration is king over whether or not your car redlines at 140mph or 150mph.

GTR RAGTOP: I got the speedo gizmo from Dallas Mustang. They manufacture one in-house and it only costs $99 compared to about $150 from anywhere else that I could find. I also bought my gears from them as well as some redline synthetic oil. Everyone seems paranoid about the stock bearings failing very early in the new Mustangs because of the cheap stock oil so I went ahead and got the good stuff. I also put some Redline trans lube in my tranny just for the heck of it.

Nice! Did ya had to supply them info on all your mods or just the drive gears for them to program it? Also, where does the unit mount? Thanks again....GTRagtop
