![]() He must have a GS400 which is quite fast for a 4 door. I believe there 0-60 numbers were 5.8 sec. I also believe they have 300 hp which always makes a difference on the highway. Let the mods begin.

![]() The 98 GS's did not have 300hp as far as I know. I think they just got the boost in power in 2000. When my GT was bone stock (cept for the K&N filter) I raced a pre-2000 GS on the freeway and it was even up to about 110. With my x-pipe and pulleys, I raced an older GS400 from a stop, and pulled him easily up to about 80, when I shut it down.
Get some pulleys and an x-pipe in that thing next. With the pulleys in, I could chirp second gear. With the X-pipe, I lowered my 0-60 time from 6 flat to 5.7sec. Any questions about my setup, feel free to email me.

![]() Um, the 98 GS400 did have 300 hp and 310 lb-ft.
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1998/lex...tml?id=lin0066 I'm sorry, but this car could beat a stock 99-up auto GT on the highway. You can't make up for the hp with simple bolt-ons when racing from a highway roll with 40 less hp. The car was heavy so you can get out in front off of the line, but from a highway roll, you will not catch one.

As far as racing the GS's, keep in mind they weigh 3700lbs. That is a lot of weight to get moving. When I raced the GS400 from a stoplight, I shut down around 80. It didn't look at all like he was closing the gap, maybe he just gave up. In my hiway run-in with the GS, I thought it was a 400 series, but maybe it was a 300? I wouldn't think I would have just run even with a GS300 though? Anything can (and will) happen on the street! |

![]() People, I have a pretty quick Cobra. My advise: When it comes to endurance runs and anything involving a highway, don't race any high priced import, especially B&W, or Lexis. The fact is, and I know this by experience, those cars can haul, we just never see anyone dumb enough to spend big greens on a luxury car and race one of us "lower-classed" car owners (as they might say).
STORY TIME (FOR PROOF): There was a new Lexis on my butt (the cheap $32,000 one that we don't even consider) and so I decided to show him what it's about while we were getting onto the highway. Granted, I took off like Hell, but from 80-120 I never epanded the gap that was created by the take-off. In fact, I think if anything, the gap was closing by a bit. Also, I have done the highway thing with a four door beemer, and he wanted to play. We could be at 100, and when I dropped and he did...whatever he did (sequential sport-shifting...) HE would close the gap, and I could do nothing. My mom and dad's 94 Acura Legend was hanging with me on the highway at speeds of 115 and up and at one point even passed me. Those cars are geared for that. They don't give a hoot about racing. It's all about pushing 110 and gliding across the highway with one hand on the wheel and the other adjusting their navigation computer, or playing Beethoven's Fifth on their premium Bose System. There's only so much that you can do at those speeds anyway unless you were packing a supercharger with a six speed!!

![]() Sorry 4 door BMW doesnt say much. Could be a 323 or a 525. Or it could have been a 540 w/ the 6spd.
Also if the legend is beating you on the freeway you need to take that cobra back to the shop or out of 5th gear. Sky

![]() CobraFire: those cars shouldn't be beating you like that. I have raced a few BMW 540s, Lexus, new Cadillacs with the Northstar, etc, up to about 130+ and the only thing that beat me on the freeway was a GS430. Are you redlining that Cobra when you race these people?

![]() Yeah, no kidding. With stock 3.27s you should be in third gear up over a 100 and 4th gear till 160. You're not running out of gear.
I wouldn't expect you to pull on a GS400 at 100+ since weight/hp means less and aero/hp means more so your advantages goes away, but it shouldn't be pulling on or passing you either. A Legan shouldn't pull on or even hand with you regardless. My room mate had a 94 Legand (auto) which we lined up a few times for the hell of it when I was stock. It wasn't close anywhere. The new M3 or M5 will give you fits as it walks on by at that speed, but the GS400 shouldn't. BTW, how much shifting do you do at 100+ mph? |
