got a noob question
ok, i can't seem to get my gt to bark in second gear, is there a secret to it? i must be a horrible driver, the gt should chirp third
and i can't even get a chirp in second. |
5-spd or auto?
If its a stick, you need to shift high, fast and hard to get rubber in 2nd. I wouldn't recommend doing it all the time as its really hard on the trans. When you hit second get out of the clutch as fast as you can. If you can't do it fast enough, side step it. But again, I don't recommned it. |
Learn to shift idiot!!!!
;) :p :D |
Strap a Vortech on it... you'll be able to bark 2nd then... ;)
|
Shift at 5900-6000 and you'll be able to chirp it.

Hey does my 96gt have traction control and if so how do you turn it on\off? Drove an iroc for 3 years so this mustang is still new to me, thanks:D

If you do not spin, look for a button marked traction control. |
Ahhh The Old Speed Shift Trick!
There is no way a stock GT chirps in 3rd, at least shifting with the clutch. I've never speed shifted my car (without using the clutch), so if you've experienced a 3rd chirp stock speed shifting I believe you.
Speaking to Hammers reference to the Vortech.....my '00 GT more than chirped when I had the Vortech installed, but once I had the 3.73 gears put in with the Vortech, Holy Freaking Moly, the first time I really got on it and slammed it into second (and I was using the clutch) I laid about 15 feet of rubber down and the car practically swung around on me, and this was on the street (meaning excellent traction) and I had my BFG Drag Radials on. What a shocking combination, Vortech and 3.73's!! Now if I could only learn to drive at the track! |

thats a negative ghost rider, the 96 gt's did not come with traction control. |
I could chirp third in my car when it was bone stock but only when the motor and tires were cold. This is without power shifting.

I've chirped third in my car, but only now that I have 3.73's. Start off in second and drop the clutch, you will spin forever...then you can hit third if you shift right.
Ok, what's this about speed-shifting, w/ out the clutch??? Wouldn't you see parts of your tranny bouncing down the road in your rearview? I want to try this (sound like fun), but I don't want to pay 3K for a new tranny + install. So, is this that bad for your car? |
Yea i chirped third once when i was bone stock. it was very cold outside and my car wasnt that warm yet and my tires were a little bit worn (back when i had the goodyears)
Now that i got a few mods i chirp third whenever i feel like it HAHAHA :D |

Well shifting without the clutch is sheer stupidity in the first place so I wouldn't even bother trying it. It serves no purpose and will not make you run any faster. Power shifting is shifting as fast as you can without letting off the gas. Speed shifting is shifting as fast as you can but letting up on the gas just slightly. The only problem with power shifting is that our EEC's have code that can sense a WOT shift and will pull timing so really unless you have that over ridden with a chip then even power shifting isn't going to do much.
I speed shift, it's the only reason my trans has lasted so long. Bill |
Thanks

Since we are talking about it, it is possible to shift without the cluch, and not hurt the trans.
I don't recomend the following with ours, but if you get a hold of an econo-box show off for your friends.. The trans will slide right into gear if you pull out of gear, and match engine rpms to what they would be in the next gear. This way everything is spinning at the same speed and it will slide right in. Try this between 3 and 4 with a Civic, rolling at 35. Don't do it especially fast, just pull out and rest some pressure on the stick and watch it slide in. Like I said, don't do this to your mustang. I've done it in other cars I've driven, and its a pretty cool trick. |
Learn to shift idiot!!!!
Learn to shift idiot!!!! that was uncalled for
how rude.......... you may not be able to hit second cuz of your gear ratio, what do you have, possibly 2.73's, if so, some 3.73's will hook you up, i had that combo and now i can get it up to 3rd and when the road is wet, sometimes even to 5th, but just wheel spin...... but it is hella fun spinning in the rain.......:D |
thanks,
yeh the new GT'S come with 3:27's, i finally figured out how to do it. i am getting some 373's in the very near future along with a magnapack catback. |
Stangman, I have 2.73's and stock everything. I can get rubber in second no problem on dry pavement.
|
I don't know what all of you guys are talking about...I have a stock (well a K & N and flowmaster mufflers) 2002 5 speed GT with 3.27's, and even before I got those 2 mods, I could chirp 2nd to the point where i fishtailed a little, chirp 3rd so everybody can here me, and 2 times, with the traction control on I tried for 4th and i may have gotton it a little bit because the traction control kicked in and slowed me down. I can chirp 2nd and 3rd whenever i want, hot, cold, and my tires have 3K miles on them. :D
You shouldn't have to shift so high to chirp 2nd, I can chirp second under 4K rpm's...may not be the smartest thing to do, but I can still do it. Don't underestimate your cars fella's ;) |
My mustang has chirped third brfore. It's not something we try to do though!
|
One more questoin how do I become a member of the ricer haters club???
|
Check out the blue oval lounge, that's where I got my acceptance.

you can chirp an auto too...
just take off in "1", run it all the way to right before the yellow on your tach (depends on your own car), then push up into "2"....if you have the traction control off or its raining, youll slide...hehe...but i've only done that a handful of times cuz on the stock trannies its not all that good for it..lol but if you have a modified auto (like my dad's 90GT), you can easily do a "1-2-1" combo and spin the tires from the jump back to "1" from "2"....also makes you take off in that (almost) stock car a helluva lot faster then letting OD shift....*grin* still....not too good for the autos to be doing either really...lol...and i dont think that my car takes off any faster from "1" than from OD....but its fun...hehe |
