For the price difference, I would definitely get the GT. If I take the dollar difference and mod a GT(which I did), I would kill a stock Cobra and still have a little money left over.
As far the Cobra having a stronger engine is totally false. The Crank is the only thing stronger. Both have crappy pistons, rods and give me an iron block over an aluminum one any day of the week. The only reason that the Cobra pulls hard up top is because of the flow of the heads, but that hurts the lowend torque and that's why it's not much faster with 60 more hp. For the $ difference, I can put on a set of ported FRPP heads, intake and run N/A with a Cobra all day. There are actually more mods for the GT than the cobra. TDC has turbo kits for the GT and not the cobra. I happen to have one going on my car right now at Jade Performance on Long Island. I say, get a GT, TDC Stage II turbo kit and run with the blown cars GT/Cobra without a problem. I also agree with people that I would never buy a used GT or Cobra, not even from a woman because some of them are worse. ------------------ 99 Silver GT Auto Vortech V2 S-trim(Intercooled) + Many other mods Dyno 7/15/00 - 358 rwhp/386 rwtq First Pass 10/15/00 - 12.75 @ 112 mph on ZRs |
Alright I have been looking at this post since it was made, and have read what everyone has said. I love my Cobra and would never go back and change the day I bought her. On the street with the mild mods I have i've only lost to a couple of cars and never a 99 and up GT.
Dont get me wrong I love the newer GT's, they look awsome and run strong. But as 95mustang said a Cobra is a Cobra is a Cobra. And you have to know how to drive and I mean drive to get the Cobra to come alive like it can in stock form. With the little mods i've made i'll run 12.90's all day, and I still haven't got pulley's or a timing adjuster. Which ever way you go you will still get a great car, so have fun http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif ------------------ 98Cobra off road x-pipe, flowmasters, 3.73 rear end(4.30's soon),Mac Cold Air,Ripper Shifter, Nitto Drag Radials |

Cobra
I would go for the Cobra.... I have had both Cobras and GT's and when presented with the option ,, the Cobra wins hands down...

I can't believe some of you people are suggesting the GT. First of all it's a 96-98 Cobra.....there is no price difference between it and a new GT. Hell mostly likey the Cobra will be CHEAPER than a new GT.
It's all about the flow....the GT can NEVER rival the air flow that the Cobra 4-valve heads have. Throw a set of gears in a Cobra and watch it come alive. I won't go into how much more hp a Cobra will make with a blower when compared to a blown GT. EXAM1999 The 96-98 GT makes 45 more hp than the GT. Maybe your talking about 99+ Cobra's (which shouldn't even be discussed here because he is looking at a 96-98). Even then, the 99+ Cobra can run a low 13. Which is a HELL of a lot faster than a GT. |

94/95 Cobra's are way faster than that........ask StopLightWarrior he has a 95 Cobra and a 2000 GT. |
I can't believe someone brought a thread that is 18 months old back to life and started arguing on it.

I cant believe peple were saying the 99-01 were slow and no faster than a GT.
I am beating the quickest bone stock GT buy an entire second at my local track. LMAO:o |

Yeah I see what you are saying and I certainly am not going to doubt you.
But back to the question at hand 96-98 cobra weighs about the same as a 99+ GT and has 45 more HP. Seems like a no brainer to me. I rape the GT's, You hardly ever see the 96+ stangs at my track. Just LS-1's, Cobras and 5.0's. As soon as I put the 03 cobra pinion brace on my 01' cobra. I started pulling consistant 13.6's and 7's @3000ft. The very fastest 99+ GT's are running 14.5's at the altitude. I need Gears bad:cool: |
