Head porting
I was thinking of getting my heads ported on my 2000gt and got a quote from mustang magic in long island. they said that they would sent them to fox lake performance in ohio and install them back in for around $3000 - 3500..is this a good price also what type of gains am i looking at.
If anyone can suggest any other place in or around ny i would appreciate it. Thanks a lot guys Gerry |

Thats an terrible price for a 15 HP gain.
For 3 grand you can buy a Novi 1000 supercharger, slicks, injectors, fuel pump, and have money to spare.

I second that! A set of SHM race ported heads is about that price. What you are paying for is LABOR. I've seen sites advertising porting of your heads for around $600.00 a set to about 1,600 for race porting and all the goodies( beefed up valves, springs etc ). Get a blower and be done with it! Unless you already have a blower and just want MORE POWER! Still that is way to much for 20 - 40 Hp max. You can buy a set of ported heads and find a decent mech to intall them for under $ 2,500.00 easy! Do a web search for ported 4.6 heads, there are a bunch of reputable sites out there.

Just because a site sells "ported" heads doesn't mean that they are good heads. Any monkey can put a die grinder to a set of heads, but very few companies know how to port well. Right now Fox Lake has one of, if not the best porting setup for the PI heads. Do I think that the power is worth $3,000-3,500... NO.
I agree with these guys. Putting that $3,500 toward a SC would make you much happier. Dark_5.0 - while I agree with your idea, your price is way off. Its a 4.6L with a returnless fuel system, not a 5.0. Its a bit more expensive to go with FI on his car. Just a heads up.
