Exclamation Kids at school are diss'n my STANG!!!

Hey guys,
I got a 5.0 stang. Its all stock and the kids at school think that they can beat my stang with their Jap imports. There is even this kid who clames his '91 Crown Vic can beat my 5.0. Well i want to make sure this ain't going to happen. I just got a job and its time for some upgrades. I want all the input i can get for engine upgrades. Im thinking to spending about 1000$. Now remember, i have to drive this car in the Minnesota winters so... I don't car about sliping and sliding around, i just want it to be reliable and start up when i need it to. Thanks a ton!!!! And i don't want any NITROS because all the import cars have it and im sick of them, and their 4 cyl. nitros and superchargers.
Thanks a ton!!!

Well dude, you live about 15min away from me. Heh. What kinda 5.0 stang you got? There's a lot of difference as the 5.0 was made from 1968-1995. Is it a stick, or a manual? That Crown Vic is gonna get thrashed by almost any 5.0 Mustang ever built.

What year is your car? Hardtop? Auto or manual? It will definently beat that crown vic (unless its an auto vert), an will most likely beat any of that jap trash (what sort of stuff are you up against?)

3.73 gears ($250) + installation ($2-300)
Headers ($200)
high flow cat H-pipe ($300)
k&n ($50)
remove air silencer (free)

You should do the exhaust yourself, as it isn't to very hard, as well as the air silencer and filter. The gears need to be installed by a professional. If you do it yourself, you not only save the money, but you get to tell those fools who don't know sh1t that you do.

"Is it a stick, or a manual? "

Lol, is that a yes or no question? Just messin' with ya. And $250 for some 373's sounds really high. I've seen them on-line and in my Summit catalog for $180.

You live just up the road from me, too. Have you ever seen this Mustang?

That would be me.

The first thing you should do is give it a complete tune-up. I'd stay away from gears if it's your winter driver. In fact, I'd recommend you invest in some Blizzak snow tires. Mustangs are not known for winter traction, but it can be done. I did it for several years.

We do need to know what year your car is to give you better advice.

I think I thrashed that car a little while back. Somethin like 20 carlengths to 100? I could be mistaken.

Hehe.

As for the stick or manual, obviously I meant auto or manual. I was doing some last minute editing, whoops. Brain fart!

Yeah, I think I remember that race, Unit. I was waiting in the left turn lane with some wild-eyed lunatic next to me driving a Mustang. When the green arrow and green light came on I turned left and he took off in a big puff of blue smoke.

That was you!!??

Default Air silencer

The air silencer is in the pasenger side fenderwall, opposite the airbox (where the air filter is). It was put on to quiet the air intake (hence the name) but doesn't do much except for restricting the intake. To remove it, you take out the air filter to begin with, as well as the top of the air box, you can just separate it from the MAF and set it aside. Then, using a 10mm wrench (I think), remove the 3 or 4 bolts holding the rest of the airbox on and the air silcencer will fall off into the fender. now you have to wrestle it out of there and you're done.

Alrighty. Run down time.

1985 Ford Mustang GT
Power
210hp
260lb/ft.

The 1985 car will benefit greatly from the exhuast modifications, and probably more from a good intake than a cam. I don't know how much clearance there is in that engine for bigger cams, quite frankly, you really don't want a "big cam". You should have the rest of your setup optimized before going for the cam swap. I know the 1983-1984 4bbl intakes were a joke. Your heads are worse than your cam, probably, but all in all you should have no problems waxxing ricers and that sorry *** 91 Crown Vic.

The 91 Crown Vic
Power
302 Single Exhaust 160hp
302 Dual Exhaust 170hp
351 VV Carbed. 180hp
Torque
302 Single Exhaust 260lb/ft
302 Dual Exhaust 270lb/ft
351 VV Carbed. 280lb/ft.

Add on the fact the Vic has 1000lbs more than your car and an AOD and you'll destroy him.

My hood is white. I'm in dire need of an entire paint job and some body repair, but I am waiting until I get all of the mechanical stuff done. I tend to get grease all over when I'm working. I'm sure it won't be any different when I do my brakes.

Default Good Lord!!! Blue Smoke

Well, you do have a car that had TONS of what were probably highway miles put on. The blue smoke deal was a little joke, but I'm sure it has to smoke a little. It's using some oil now.

Thats a good point unit, my car also lived all of its life with an oil cooler, as it still does.
