Post What's it take to make a 95-97 Mustang GT (4.6L) fast?

1st, what are the stock numbers? Something like 6.0 0-60 in a 5spd?

Well I want a really fast one, 5.0 0-60 or less... What would this take?

I am thinking SC or turbo Kit....then just normal Intake, ECU, Exhaust. Would this be enough? If not, what else would it take? How much do the turbo/SC kits run that most people use for only little or no modification needed?

thanks,
PJ

Stock, a 96-97 GT will usually pull an even 15.00 sec quarter mile on street tires.... sometimes a little faster....

For mid-high 13 second times, gears, exhaust, pullies, and a small shot (75 pill) of nitrous should do it...

Anything faster, you'll need to go ahead and replace that intake if you're thinking about boost. It WILL go bye-bye...
To get the most out of the engine, you'll really need to ditch the crappy 96-98 heads and go for the 99-00 head swap, or go for the motorsport pieces. Once you're there, the car will absolutely LOVE the boost of a supercharger...

Hope this helps...

Yea, I have been reading around here and I thionk the route I will take will be, Intake, H pipe (w/ high flow cats), performance mufflers (reccomendation?), 3.55 gears (no problem on highway right?), head swap or new heads (price?), then a supercharger...only like a 6psi boost...

I'd like to keep nitrous for last.

What times/HP would I be looking at w/this?

thanks,
PJ

That sounds like a good plan although most people around here would suggest nothing less than 3.73's for gears. You'll still have complete daily driveability with them.

Unless you're doing an insane amount of highway driving, 3.73 gears should be the choice for a street driven GT in my opinion.

I hit the highway quite a bit, and have never missed my stock gear ratio....

An h\x-pipe and catback combo should net anywhere from 5-10 rwhp, depending on the combo and the engine.

The head swap to the 99-00 heads is quite a bit cheaper, but requires more parts and minor modification work. The motorsport heads bolt right on and give you a bit more power. No muss, no fuss... but are much more expensive.

The 99-00 heads will also increase your compression a little more than the motorsport pieces, which may be a concern if you go with a blower or nitrous....
(estimate a 30-35 hp increase with either head combo)

As far as the supercharger, if you're looking for boost in the 6 psi range, why not go with a "roots" type blower that is actually part of the intake manifold?
Replace the stock plastic intake with one that has a blower on top...

It gives 6 psi of boost, that gives mucho torque at low rpms.... Press the pedal and go... No Waiting...
(estimate a 55hp increase on a stock engine)

This setup would be sweet on a street driven stang.... a real stoplight warrior...

(Please note that all hp estimates are at the crank. Although the addition of all these parts together would improve the power output at the wheels)

All in all, I'd say you'd be looking at around 300 rwhp with this combo, maybe a bit more...

95's had the 5.0L. '96 was the first year for the 4.6L.

yea, I kenw the redesign was either 95 or 96..thats why I put 4.6 How much does the kit for a "roots" type supercharger. What would I need (fuel system upgrades/new manifolds?) to support the SC?

thanks,
PJ

Cool

I don't know what the cost is right off hand, but the motorsport kit comes with the larger injectors and most other parts you'll need...
You might need to go with a bigger fuel pump though.... I don't know...

Cool

i have the svo blower on my 97gt. it make for a nice street cruiser even with stock gears. it comes with new computor, injectors, and fuel pump. it is not as fast as a vortech or paxton at the track, but i have not blown it up trying to make a 4.6 run like a 351w. shifty

I have 3.73 gears in my '98 and I do a ton of highway driving. To work & back is 80 miles per day. Not to mention, I drive to every FFW race to compete in M/M. The car gets 24-26 mpg when I run her about 80 mph.

You really should go with a roots blower. It's almost as easy as an intake swap. The newer head swap is rather extensive and can be costly if you have someone else do everything. The roots blower gives you "right now" power. Great for stoplight challenges.

Excellent advice once again Hammer.

I'll add to the conversation too - SVO blower owner.

Great kit and unit comes with everything you need to get better from the 4.6 but understand as Hammer pointed out - rwhp numbers will remain in the 290s to 310s. That's it! Aside from that, it big rwhp numbers aren't what you want but great torque and a complete kit with little to no muss. The SVO/FRPP kit is the way to go.

Price list:
4.6L supercharger kit M-9066-E46.
FRPP blower and 98 5-speed control kit.......$3100
NGK TR-6 plugs.......$15
FRPP 9mm wires (if you still have stock wires).......$75
Royal Purple "Purple Ice" coolant additive......$9
9-10 pound pulley (if wanted).....$60
Gates 111.5" belt (needed for 9 pound pulley)......$40
180* thermostat.......$6
Installation of all above........$350

Prices are for my set-up (98GT manual) and the larger pulley which I highly recommend.

Contact Info: call Keith at 1-877-878-9663 The Racing Zone Dallas Tx.

That's if you're interested. There are a lot of sexy options out ther for your horsepower desire - ask Hammer about his set-up.

got to www.outlawperformance.com they have incon systems twin turbo kits for all late model V8 mustangs that make 600-1400hp for around 5 grand. For making that much you'l prolly also require a forged rotating assembly and new fuels system, but thats the most power gain I've seen for stangs.
